Petitions October 2nd, 2009

Mr. Speaker, I, too, have a couple of petitions to present.

In the first petition, the petitioners state that it has been 40 years since Parliament changed the law to permit abortion and that Canada has no law to protect the lives of unborn children.

The petitioners call upon Parliament to pass legislation for the protection of human life from the time of conception until natural death.

The Environment October 2nd, 2009

Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister and President Obama recently met and reaffirmed that, given the high degree of the integration between the Canadian and U.S. economies and energy markets, we will cooperate closely as we develop respective approaches to climate change.

They also reiterated the urgency of taking aggressive action to combat climate change and to reaffirm their commitment toward a comprehensive and effective international agreement that puts the world on a clean energy path. After 13 dark years of Liberals doing nothing, we are getting it done.

The Environment October 2nd, 2009

Mr. Speaker, the hon. member knows that we have answered this question over the last two years. Canada's target has been a 20% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2020 and those are absolute reductions. That is what we just heard that the Senate is doing. Those are the toughest targets in Canadian history and one of the toughest targets in the world. The member needs to get on track.

Petitions September 18th, 2009

Mr. Speaker, the second petition addresses the long gun registry. It states that the long gun registry has not saved a single life since it was introduced. The petitioners would rather see their tax dollars keep guns out of the hands of criminals and gangs instead of trying to control law-abiding citizens.

They call upon the House of Commons to support any legislation that will cancel the long gun registry and streamline the Firearms Act.

Petitions September 18th, 2009

Mr. Speaker, I am honoured to present two petitions from constituents in the greater Vancouver area.

The first petition states that the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees that everyone has the right to life and that since January 28, 1988, Canada has had no law to protect the lives of unborn children.

The petitioners call upon Parliament to pass legislation for the protection of human life from the time of conception until natural death.

Petitions September 14th, 2009

Mr. Speaker, the other petition is to combat identity theft in Canada which is a very serious problem.

Petitions September 14th, 2009

Mr. Speaker, I have a couple of petitions to table. The first is from a number of constituents from the Fraser Valley who call upon Parliament to pass legislation for the protection of human life from the time of conception until natural death.

Petitions June 19th, 2009

Madam Speaker, the second petition is another petition on the gun registry, which has spiralled out of control to an estimated $2 billion a decade later and has not saved one single life since it was introduced.

The petitioners call upon the House of Commons to support and pass any legislation that would cancel the Canadian long gun registry.

Petitions June 19th, 2009

Madam Speaker, I have two petitions to present to the House today.

The first petition is with regard to medical EI benefits. The petitioners draw to the attention of the government to the fact that a number of severe, potentially life-threatening conditions do not qualify for disability programs because they are not necessarily permanent.

The petitioners call upon the House of Commons to enact legislation to provide additional medical EI benefits equal to maternity EI benefits.

Petitions June 17th, 2009

Mr. Speaker, the third petition is regarding the long gun registry. It calls upon the House of Commons to support legislation to cancel the Canadian long gun registry.
