COVID-19 Emergency Response November 3rd, 2020

Mr. Speaker, of course, making sure that our small businesses are supported through this very difficult time is our top priority.

I want to assure the hon. member that absolutely nothing is more important than for us to get the supports out to businesses, especially the important support like rent support and fixed costs during this very tough period. The legislation that was introduced will do exactly that; ensure that our businesses get that support to bridge through this difficult time, including lockdown support of an additional 25%. I hope that the member will indeed support us so that we can get this important legislation passed and get the support to businesses.

Mr. Speaker, I want to thank the member of Parliament for his advocacy for small businesses in Don Valley North.

Since the very beginning of this pandemic, we have listened to small businesses. The member has been excellent at sharing feedback from those businesses in his riding so we can better serve them.

To date, the CEBA has helped more than 770,000 businesses. I am pleased to announce that businesses operating with a personal account now can have access to this important interest-free loan.

The member of Parliament for Don Valley North can tell the businesses in his riding that we are for them every step of the way.

Mr. Speaker, nothing is more important to us than helping our small businesses get through this very difficult time. Whether it is the small business loan that has helped almost 800,000 small businesses, relief for fixed costs such as the rent subsidy or helping businesses with payroll, there are literally millions of Canadians who are benefiting from the support to our small businesses. We will stop at nothing to keep supporting the work they do because they are so important to our communities.

Mr. Speaker, Small Business Week is the perfect time to recognize the hard work of SMEs in Miramichi—Grand Lake and across New Brunswick during the pandemic.

Nothing is off the table when it comes to helping our SMEs. Earlier this week, I announced $12 million to support the Canada united small business relief fund.

Our government will be there to help SMEs.

Agriculture and Agri-Food October 22nd, 2020

Mr. Speaker, those businesses, farming businesses, are absolutely important to the economy of this country. We are working with over 200 financial institutions to make this loan available to these businesses as soon as possible, as quickly as possible. Very soon we will announce the process to enable those businesses to get access to this important liquidity support through the small business account so that they can get access to this support.

Mr. Speaker, during Small Business Week, small businesses in Guelph and across the country have shown incredible resilience and are working hard in their communities. We are helping thousands of small businesses enhance their digital and e-commerce capabilities. Going digital will enable our small businesses to access global markets, to export, to find new customers and to take advantage of Canada's free trade agreements. We are going to do what is right to keep supporting our small businesses during these very difficult times.

Mr. Speaker, this being Small Business Week, I want to acknowledge the resilience of the businesses in Châteauguay—Lacolle. Starting and managing a small business takes a lot of work during a pandemic.

The second wave is forcing small businesses to roll up their sleeves once again. My colleague can assure businesses in Napierville, Léry, Châteauguay and Saint-Rémi that we will be there for them.

COVID-19 Emergency Response October 20th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, I want to thank the hon. member for that really important question.

We want to assure all small businesses, particularly farming businesses, that, absolutely, we want them to get the important support of this loan. We will announce very shortly the process for them to get access to that loan.

The banking system in Canada does not have the same kind of due diligence for personal accounts as it does for business accounts, and we are working very hard with the over 200 financial institutions to make sure that we get this to these businesses right away.

Export Development Canada October 19th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, pursuant to Standing Order 32(2), I have the pleasure to table, in both official languages, the annual report of the 2018-19 Canada account, as prepared by Export Development Canada.

Mr. Speaker, as we celebrate Small Business Week, I would like to thank the member for supporting SMEs in Saint-Laurent.

We are supporting our SMEs by extending the emergency wage subsidy that is helping SMEs with their fixed costs, as well as our new Canada emergency commercial rent assistance program, and we are expanding the emergency business account to help more businesses with an additional $20,000.
