Mr. Speaker, the following questions will be answered today: Nos. 49 and 50.
Question No. 49-
Petitions June 14th, 1994
Mr. Speaker, I have a second petition dealing with the issue of changes to the Criminal Code regarding assisted suicide.
The petitioners who signed this are from the same communities. They ask that the prohibition against assisted suicide be retained without changes and that the current law be enforced so that Parliament is not seen to be aiding or abetting assisted suicide.
Petitions June 14th, 1994
Mr. Speaker, I have the honour to present a petition signed by numerous residents of Harrowsmith, Sydenham, Glenburnie, Belleville and Kingston. That pretty well covers the communities that have signed, all of which are objecting to changes in the human rights code of the Canadian Human Rights Act or the Charter of Rights and Freedoms dealing with same sex relationships and approval thereof.
Most of the constituents are from the neighbouring riding of Hastings-Frontenac-Lennox and Addington but for whatever reason the petition was forwarded to me by them. I present it to the House on that basis.
Government Response To Petitions June 14th, 1994
Mr. Speaker, pursuant to Standing Order 36(8), I have the honour to table, in both official languages, the government's response to 12 petitions.

Order In Council Appointments June 13th, 1994
Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to table, in both official languages, a number of Order in Council appointments which were made by the government.
Pursuant to the provisions of Standing Order 110(1), these appointments are deemed referred to the appropriate standing committees, a list of which is attached.
Committees Of The House June 10th, 1994
Mr. Speaker, I rise on a point of order. I made a mistake earlier today when I moved concurrence in the 27th report of the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs.
I indicated to the House that the changes would not come into effect until the end of June. It is not true. They came into effect today. They are minor changes but they did come into effect today. I am sorry for having made that error in my presentation at that time.

Committees Of The House June 10th, 1994
Mr. Speaker, I move that the 27th report of the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs presented to the House on Wednesday, June 8, 1994 be concurred in. I believe the hon. member for Kindersley-Lloydminster will second the motion. I also believe there is consent in the House for the adoption of this motion.
The motion is one which deals with concurrence in a report that recommends a series of technical changes to the standing orders of the House that were approved unanimously in the procedure and House affairs committee. The changes in the rules will not come into effect until after the House adjourns at the end of June, but I think they are ones that will be helpful to
members in their dealings in the House. I will not go into the details of them at this point.
(Motion agreed to.)
