Statements in the House

Innovation, Science and Industry October 10th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, if I understood correctly, the government House leader just said that both you and my party are abusing our authority. Right now, however, I think your ruling is quite clear, and that is what is currently blocking the work of Parliament.

The Prime Minister and his government are refusing to provide documents that would shed light on a scandal involving $400 million of taxpayers' money, when Canada has so many other problems that need to be solved right now. People are struggling. They need our help. Parliament, however, is unable to do its job because this government refuses to obey your order and the order of members of this House.

Why?

Innovation, Science and Industry October 10th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister is making a mockery of your authority and that of the House.

More than $400 million of taxpayers' money was given to Liberal cronies, and the Prime Minister still refuses to hand over documentary evidence to the RCMP, obstructing justice. Canadians know full well that a person with nothing to hide willingly co-operates with law enforcement.

Who has the courage to stand up in the House and tell us why?

Public Safety October 9th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, during an interview this morning, the Montreal police chief clearly said that to solve Montreal's problems, he would need the laws and regulations to make it possible.

For the past nine years, all the government has done is pass bills like Bill C‑5, Bill C‑75, and Bill C‑83.

These laws have left criminals free to roam the streets of Montreal and all the other communities in Canada. They have no fear of the justice system or the police. Will the government listen to the Montreal police chief? Will it change the laws back to what they were when the Conservatives held power?

Public Safety October 9th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, La Presse reminded readers this morning that 15-year-old Meriem Boundaoui was killed by a stray bullet, that 16-year-old Thomas Trudel also died from a gunshot wound, that a 14-year-old teenager perished while attempting to commit arson in Beauce and that a French tourist and her seven-year-old daughter died in an arson attack while visiting Montreal.

Yesterday, the Minister of Justice blamed the Government of Quebec for all that, but all the problems being created right now can be traced back to the Liberal government. When will an election be called so we can fix this fiasco?

Public Safety October 8th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, that is twice now that the Minister of Justice of Canada has blamed the Legault government for the administration of justice, which this government changed.

The Criminal Code is a federal responsibility. That is why Bill C-5 and Bill C-75 have caused so many problems on the streets of Montreal and now everywhere else in Quebec. Sergeant Giguère of the Éclipse squad in Montreal even reportedly said that prior to this decision, people on the street would tell police they did not want to be locked up for long, but now, people are being arrested for using firearms and they are out again soon after. Is that normal?

Why does the government refuse to amend the laws that have destroyed Canada's entire justice system?

Public Safety October 8th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, in La Presse this morning, Sergeant Vincent Moore of the Montreal police Éclipse squad was condemning the fact that gang members use firearms without fear of consequences. He said, “Everything's gone completely crazy. I've never seen anything like it in my 18-year career....These days, it's not uncommon for someone to be arrested and then say, ‘No big deal, you're going to give me a piece of paper and let me go, and I'm going to do it again.’ They're no longer afraid of being arrested by the police. They know there won't be any consequences.”

Why are the Prime Minister and the Bloc Québécois letting criminals call the shots in our communities?

Forestry Industry October 1st, 2024

Mr. Speaker, like the Prime Minister, the leader of the Bloc Québécois likes to entertain us with imaginary tales to try to justify his relevance. For example, on X, he is always selling himself as a hero, the one who put a stop to the order in council that would jeopardize the forestry industry, including in Abitibi‑Témiscamingue, the North Shore and Saguenay—Lac‑Saint‑Jean.

The reality, however, which we found out from the Quebec environment minister this morning, is that the Prime Minister and his Minister of Environment and Climate Change want to shut down the industry. They have no other option. The Bloc Québécois is not much help.

Once again, will the Minister of Environment and Climate Change put an end to his radical order in council once and for all?

Public Safety September 26th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, gun violence is up 121%. However, these are not sport shooters or hunters. These are street gangs with guns that have crossed the border. The government needs to put more money, investments and effort into the border. That is what a Conservative government will do.

How can the government explain its weakness? Why does it always go after hunters and sport shooters?

Public Safety September 26th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, the Bloc Québécois showed its true colours yesterday by keeping the Liberal Prime Minister on life support.

The Bloc voted to keep a centralizing government with a disastrous record on public safety. Since 2015, the number of auto thefts in Quebec has increased by 87%. Violent firearms offences are up 146%.

Does the Bloc Québécois-backed government recognize that its policies have created public safety problems across the country, and particularly in Quebec?

Business of Supply September 24th, 2024

Madam Speaker, as I said at the beginning of my speech, memory is not infallible. I think the leader of the Green Party has forgotten that this Liberal government has been a disaster for nine years. For us, there is nothing new under the sun. We are not suddenly moving a motion to bring down the government. We have been saying for quite some time that this is not working. We have only just returned to the House, and it is time to call an election.
