Mr. Speaker, during the pandemic, many Canadians have been affected mentally and emotionally, and they deserve adequate support and treatment. However, the government has failed victims suffering from mental health issues.

Why is there neglect by the government at this crucial juncture of the COVID-19 crisis?

Innovation, Science and Industry April 23rd, 2021

Madam Speaker, in spite of being fully capable, our government failed Canadians on domestic vaccine production in a timely manner. Canada is in the middle of a serious pandemic, but the government keeps on bragging with announcements of millions and millions of dollars with no end result.

How is the government going to justify its slackness to Canadians?

Health March 23rd, 2021

Mr. Speaker, compared to other countries, less than 10% of Canadians are vaccinated and everyone is concerned.

Can the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry explain why, in spite of the resources available, the Liberal government could not bring in a proper plan for a made-in-Canada vaccine instead of depending on others?

Public Safety February 26th, 2021

Madam Speaker, the Sikh community was grateful and delighted by the government's removal of Sikh religion words from the “2018 Public Report on the Terrorism Threat to Canada”. However, a large number of communities still have questions for the government even today.

Who pressured the Prime Minister's Office, the Minister of Public Safety and the Canadian intelligence community to compromise the national security of Canada, because Sikhs in general never wanted—

Public Safety February 17th, 2021

Mr. Speaker, I am a proud Sikh by birth. Like Sikhs in Canada, I am not a Khalistani extremist or a sympathizer. However, there are a few Sikhs in Canada as well as in the House.

On December 13, 2018, the minister of public safety removed religion Sikh words from the “Terrorist Threat to Canada” report, 2018, and the Sikh community was grateful. However, a few unsatisfied Sikh members of parliament stood against their own government, used all the tools and ulterior motives and pressurized the government and got Khalistani extremism removed from the report. Their hidden agenda was to camouflage all the names long-time linked to the movement, even their own near and dear ones.

The security of Canada is paramount, but they compromised it. Shame on them for pandering to extremism in Canada. History will not forgive them.

KJ Designers November 18th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, our government recognizes that small businesses are the lifeblood of our communities and are vital for Canada's economic recovery.

I am honoured to speak today in recognition of a thriving small business in my riding of Brampton Centre.

Founded in 2001 by Dinesh Gautam, KJ Designers has served the greater Brampton community by providing high-quality Indian wedding fashion outfits throughout Canada. Unfortunately, the business has had some significant downfalls during the pandemic. However, with the help of our government's plans to support small businesses, KJ Designers continues to keep its doors open and the business ought to boom now.

I thank Dinesh, their family and staff and for their commitment to serve the communities. Their efforts never go unnoticed.

Labour November 5th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, the COVID-19 pandemic has shown us all the importance of supporting workers and businesses in communities across Canada. Ensuring safe workplaces for all, from coast to coast to coast, is vital as we rebuild our economy. In my community of Brampton Centre, businesses like Tandoori Flame and Taro Pharmaceutical Industries are focal points for our recovery and my constituents want to know what steps are being taken. Could the Minister of Labour update the House on how the government is—

Mr. Speaker, the issue at hand today is very delicate. Everybody knows that. This needs to be discussed at length. For everyone listening to this debate, those who are in Parliament deliberating this issue are taking deep steps to resolve all the issues so we can bring back legislation, and in front of the public.

Mr. Speaker, I acknowledge what the member has said. This legislation is very urgent. Medical assistance in dying is a very complex and deeply personal issue, as the member has already stated. The sad reality is that death is the only way for many people who are suffering. We have tried our best by way of consultation all over Canada. People from different cultures, races and backgrounds were directly involved in the January 2020 public consultation process. The minister along with several other distinguished members held round table discussions across the country with 125 experts and stakeholders.

Criminal Code October 28th, 2020

Mr. Speaker, our law acknowledges the conscience right of health care providers and the role they may play in providing medical assistance in dying. The amendment proposed in Bill C-7 has many changes to this effect. Our government will remain committed to working with the provinces and territories to support access to medical assistance in dying, while respecting the personal conviction of health care providers.
