Madam Chair, the minister tries to claim things when they are in his benefit, but when they are against him, he blames other levels of government. The Auditor General says the minister does not actually track the percentages. The Liberal national housing strategy from 2016 until now targets 66% as the percentage of homelessness that should be reduced.

How much has homelessness been reduced since 2016?

Business of Supply May 15th, 2023

Madam Chair, the minister should take the time to talk to the president of the CMHC, because the CMHC says 3.5 million houses need to be built by 2030. At the rate the current government is going, we will not have that level of new houses until 2040.

What should people do between 2023 and 2040 on affordability?

Business of Supply May 15th, 2023

Madam Chair, the minister is having trouble hearing now. I said $82 billion was the cost.

How many houses need to be built in Canada to restore housing affordability?

Business of Supply May 15th, 2023

Madam Chair, once again, the minister does not know his portfolio. It is 221,000 since he has been in government. The government spent $82 billion for 21,000 more homes than under the Harper government.

Is $82 billion for 21,000 homes a good price?

Business of Supply May 15th, 2023

Madam Chair, the minister did not know the answer. It is 200,000.

What is the average number of housing starts of the Liberals from 2016 until now?

Business of Supply May 15th, 2023

Madam Chair, what was the average number of housing starts under the Harper Conservative government?

Finance May 9th, 2023

Mr. Speaker, I can tell us what we are talking about at the finance committee, the fact that the Minister of Finance has not shown up in six months and has had three invitations to attend and has blown them all off.

Since the Liberal government plans to spend $3.1 trillion, answering a few questions in committee for two hours is the least she should do for her pay.

Will the finance minister stop hiding and testify for two hours, not one, on her failed budget at the finance committee, yes or no?

Fisheries and Oceans April 24th, 2023

Mr. Speaker, the DFO's elver science is done on the East River-Chester, the only river. Elver harvesters have been begging the DFO to monitor and enforce the law on that river, yet poaching is happening every night. I personally observed that for the last three nights.

During the open legal season and since the closure, no one from the DFO has been on that river. If members can believe it, DFO enforcement proactively called the licence-holder this morning to say that it would not be monitoring the river for either law enforcement breaches or science. Why is this the case?

Automotive Industry April 21st, 2023

Mr. Speaker, perhaps the member should listen to his Minister of Finance who, on Wednesday, said that competing with the subsidies of the Biden inflation act is a “race to the bottom”. Liberals surely would not give away $14 billion in taxpayer money without a contract on the exact commitments of jobs in the plant.

I will ask again: How many jobs in the plant will this $14-billion subsidy buy?

Automotive Industry April 21st, 2023

Mr. Speaker, last year, Volkswagen had the same revenue as the Government of Canada, at $413 billion. Now the Liberals are providing a $14-billion subsidy from taxpayers.

My question is simple. How many jobs in the plant does $14 billion buy for this auto company, which was convicted of environmental law crimes in Canada?
