[Fundraisers in Souris—Moose Mountain, October 31st, 2024]

Mr. Speaker, during these times of economic uncertainty and financial challenges, I would like to take the opportunity to recognize the incredible generosity of the people of Souris—Moose Mountain and to thank them for all they do to give back to their communities.

Two weeks ago, United Way Estevan held its annual telethon, with a goal of raising $348,000 to support the organization's member agencies. It blew that goal out of the water and raised a new off-air record of over $380,000 in pledges and donations by the end of the 33-hour event.

The following weekend was the Weyburn Communithon, which was also filled with performances that showcased some of the local talent from the area. An incredible $92,000 was raised that day alone, and donations continue to roll in.

I sincerely thank all the volunteers who work so hard to make these fundraisers happen, as well as all the businesses and people who continue to donate to these great causes. I am extremely proud and grateful to represent them here in the House.

Mr. Speaker, I have been involved, over the past two and a half years, in the development of this documentation. Over time, I have been at many different meetings on this issue and have listened to many of the witnesses. Oftentimes, witnesses had major concerns about accountability.

The report basically addresses the issue of expressing accountability through the OSIC, the Office of the Sport Integrity Commissioner. The question I have for my colleague is as follows as a lot of the concerns that we heard from the witnesses were around the fact that they do not trust the OSIC.

How are we to be accountable for those who are supposed to be accountable? I am wondering if she has any comments on how we might help assure these witnesses that the avenues being taken to protect them are being taken appropriately.

With regard to Exhibit 5.8 of the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development's report entitled "Agriculture and Climate Change Mitigation-Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada" and the performance targets related to climate change mitigation in place for the Agricultural Clean Technology program: (a) what were the 193 new technologies adopted based on 141 performance reports; (b) what did the performance reports say about the adoption of these technologies; and (c) what were the 352 approved projects based on 141 performance reports?

[Health Care Professionals, June 11th, 2024]

Mr. Speaker, when someone gets sick and needs treatment, what do they do? They go to a doctor. Unfortunately, after nine years of the costly NDP-Liberal coalition, Canada is hemorrhaging doctors at an alarming rate. The changes to the capital gains tax are having deep impacts on Canada's already struggling health care system, and the situation is only getting worse.

According to the Canadian Medical Association, the risk of already overstretched physicians' leaving the profession or reducing their hours in response to heightened taxation is real. Over six million Canadians do not have access to a family doctor, and as someone who lives in a rural area that is short on health care professionals, I can say it will be frightening to see family doctors, dentists and chiropractors leaving Canada in droves.

Doctors warned about the impacts of unnecessary and harmful tax, but they were ignored. It will be regular Canadians who will lose access to diagnosis and treatment, ultimately paying the price for the government's incompetence. With Canada already lacking 30,000 family doctors, and more leaving every day, it is clear that the NDP-Liberal government is simply not worth the cost.

Mr. Speaker, my colleague from Regina—Lewvan is so right. In Saskatchewan, we saw the total destruction of the system under the NDP government. Today, we see the building of beds to be provided for drug addicts and meth addicts. They are being provided by the provincial government because it is the provincial government's responsibility to provide that coverage.

Mr. Speaker, I applaud the member for Courtenay—Alberni, with whom I have worked on health care many times over the last nine years, for his passion and care for his constituents and for his desire to do the best that he believes he can to help. I do believe he is doing what he can to help. Ultimately, though, this piece of legislation is about diabetes coverage. It is not about rare diseases. It is about diabetes coverage, and that diabetes coverage would actually be less than what is available in other programs.

Mr. Speaker, one thing I learned through her colleagues who were at committee was about the importance placed on the great health care program the Province of Quebec provides. It is a tremendous program and one of the best in the country. It is a plan and a program available because the province provides it. Health care is a provincial issue, and every province is in a position to provide health care. Instead of the government putting the $1.5 billion in the budget toward this, it should put that money toward those who are uninsured and help those who are uninsured.

Mr. Speaker, I find that question extremely interesting from the member, who is being compelled to vote for this piece of legislation as he speaks. If the member was to read this piece of legislation, in four pages, the member would also understand that he is misleading Canadians by saying that this would cover every piece of diabetic medication out there. That is not going to happen. In fact, it would cover less. As a single payer, when that system is put in place, people who have health care plans that cover multiple programs would lose that ability because they would be forced to go on that single-payer plan.
