Mr. Speaker, Canadians are all aware that doping in sports remains an ongoing issue in the world's sporting community.
As we lead up to the 2010 Olympics hosted by the City of Vancouver in British Columbia, could the Secretary of State for Sport tell the House what action Canada is taking to ensure that Canada's 2010 Olympics will be doping free and serve as an example to young people around the world?

Mr. Speaker, I have the honour today to table a petition on behalf of 57 of my constituents of Kelowna—Lake Country who draw to the attention of the government the situation in northern Uganda regarding the child soldiers.
Children cannot speak for themselves and each one of us here should try to help them. No child should face the threat of being kidnapped and forced to fight in a war.
I want to wish a Merry Christmas to everyone.

Mr. Speaker, it is a privilege to rise in the House this afternoon to present a petition on behalf of 58 of my constituents from Kelowna—Lake Country. They would like our government to enforce fuel efficiency standards in motor vehicles and to take action on the environment.

Mr. Speaker, this petition requests that the Canadian government ban genetic use restriction technologies in grain seeds, ensuring that this technology never be tested or planted in Canada. I present these petitions to the House and appropriate committee.

Mr. Speaker, today I have the privilege of presenting five petitions to the House. The first four are signed by over 550 of my constituents of Kelowna--Lake Country who request that the government reopen the debate on same sex marriage.
Health November 28th, 2006
Mr. Speaker, more than two million Canadians have diabetes and specifically aboriginal people have a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Today the Minister of Health took action on this issue and announced that Canada's new government is establishing a wait times guarantee for diabetes care for first nations on reserves.
Could the minister please share with the House some of the details of this initiative?
HIV-AIDS November 27th, 2006
Mr. Speaker, today, as we kick off AIDS Awareness Week, we stand in solidarity with those facing HIV-AIDS and remember its many victims.
It is a week where we can shed light on the true nature of this disease and dispel the many stigmas and false perceptions that stop us from taking meaningful action. Many of us, including my constituents, can speak personally of the destructive nature of HIV-AIDS. That is why the residents of Kelowna--Lake Country are committed to the cause, raising thousands of dollars for local HIV-AIDS services and supporting our local Rotary Clubs in their international efforts in Africa.
We cannot be complacent. In Canada, rising infection rates among youth and females show that we are not doing enough. Only 50% of grade nine students know that HIV-AIDS has no cure. We need to do better. We must educate our children and our peers to stop the growth of this epidemic.
This week let the red ribbon symbolize our perseverance. We can and we must continue to fight against HIV-AIDS in Canada and around the world.
Aboriginal Affairs November 21st, 2006
Mr. Speaker, today we are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples. The Assembly of First Nations has issued a report card on the former Liberal government's performance in relation to the RCAP report.
Can the Minister of Indian Affairs share with the House his comments on the Liberal Party's failing grade, a capital F?
Sports November 6th, 2006
Mr. Speaker, from August 2 to August 10, 2008, the fine folks in the community of Cowichan in beautiful British Columbia will host the 2008 North American Indigenous Games.
To celebrate aboriginal sport and culture, these games will bring together 2,000 cultural performers, more than 3,000 volunteers, over 5,000 junior athletes competing in 16 sports, and generate more than $26 million for the local economy.
Could the Minister for Sport please share with the House what our government is doing to support these games?
Juvenile Diabetes October 31st, 2006
Mr. Speaker, I just finished meeting with a group of brave children and their families who face the daily struggle against the disease of type 1 juvenile diabetes.
Forty-five children from across the country, including a constituent of mine, beautiful four-year-old Amy Buchanan, are on Parliament Hill today. These children all live with the challenges of this disease.
I would like to honour these children and all the children of Canada, who endure this illness that affects every aspect of their lives, for their courage and their perseverance to not let this disease rob them of their dreams.
What families living with diabetes need is hope; hope for a future without this disease.
I am proud to say that my wife and I recently chaired a fundraising effort in my riding of Kelowna—Lake Country that raised over $80,000 for diabetes research. It is through the generosity of caring Canadians that we will reach our goal to understand and one day beat type 1 juvenile diabetes.
By working together, the mission is possible for a made in Canada cure for diabetes.
