Holiday Heroes Campaign December 9th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, on November 12, the 28th annual holiday heroes toy and food drive was officially kicked off by York Regional Police. Over the years, it has helped over 100,000 Canadians in need by collecting donations of cash, gift cards, toys, non-perishable food items and children's clothing.

I thank the Newmarket Soccer Club for hosting, and I thank the York Regional Police. I thank the partners, the Salvation Army and Victim Services of York Region, which play a key role in distributing these items throughout the community. I thank, also, our community. We live in a place I am proud to call home. I am proud of how we support each other and of our willingness to give.

To quote Dr. Seuss, “Christmas Day will always be just as long as we have we”.

Families, Children and Social Development November 25th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, school food programs are growing in Ontario. With our new agreement with the Ontario government, the national school food program will now support kids in Newmarket—Aurora and across Ontario with healthy meals, building a foundation for their well-being and success.

Can the Minister of Families, Children and Social Development share how this program is helping families save money and make sure that kids receive nutritious meals?

Dental Care November 1st, 2024

Mr. Speaker, over a million Canadians across this country have now visited a dental care services provider through the Canada dental care plan. I am delighted to share with my constituents in Newmarket—Aurora that the number of people receiving care under this plan will continue to rise, with over 977,000 people approved for the Canadian dental care plan in Ontario. This is phenomenal news. My constituents can now access dental care, many for the first time, putting their health first.

I have seen first-hand that the Canadian dental care plan is making a huge difference in the lives of Canadians who need it the most. I am proud that our government is delivering that.

Health September 27th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, earlier this week, the leader of the Conservative Party called out our pharmacare plan as “radical”. He has continued to downplay the significance and impact of the Canadian dental care plan. So far, it has already helped over 750,000 Canadians, and it is projected to help nine million people by the end of 2025.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health please explain why it is so important to maintain public health care?

Birthday Congratulations September 18th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, on September 22, we honour the incredible life and legacy of World War II veteran Jim Parks on his 100th birthday.

A true Canadian hero, Jim's contributions to our country and the world are immeasurable. As a young soldier, he bravely landed on Juno Beach during World War II and continued his service with unwavering dedication.

His tireless efforts to educate others about Canada's role in the war through the Royal Canadian Legion's Memory Project and his fundraising for the Juno Beach Centre highlight his lasting impact. Jim's resilience and commitment to sharing history inspire us all. We celebrate not only his century of life, but also his lasting influence on future generations.

I look forward to the Newmarket community coming together on October 16 to celebrate with Mr. Parks.

Congratulations to Jim, and I thank him for his remarkable service to Canada.

Committees of the House June 19th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, I have the honour to present, in both official languages, the 25th report of the The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities, entitled “Promoting and Encouraging Intergenerational Volunteerism”. This is a crisis that the nation needs to deal with.

Pursuant to Standing Order 109, the committee requests that the government table a comprehensive response to this report.

Dental Care June 18th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, last month, eligible Canadians were able to begin receiving care under the Canadian dental care plan. In my community of Newmarket—Aurora and across Canada, many seniors who have not been able to afford a dentist are now able to visit participating dental providers.

Could the Minister of Health update the House with respect to how many Canadians have already received care under the plan, and about the newest cohort that can begin applying for the Canadian dental plan?

Business of Supply June 6th, 2024

Madam Speaker, I indicated what actions the government has taken and what actions the government will undertake to make sure that we strengthen the governance model, transparency and accountability. I am focused on going forward, of course. This is an important industry for our country. It creates jobs.

Business of Supply June 6th, 2024

Madam Speaker, there were three independent reviews. All of the recommendations of those reviews were undertaken.

It is interesting, and I see some of my colleagues who were present at the INDU committee last night, where we did talk to people from the industry, and they said that we need to be very careful that we do not throw the baby out with the bathwater. Again, I remind members that 13 of our Canadian innovators were on the top 100 world, global and innovators awards list. So, we are doing some good things. Let us not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Business of Supply June 6th, 2024

Madam Speaker, the government will do what is required to do and will produce what is required to produce.
