Carbon Pricing November 22nd, 2024

Mr. Speaker, the NDP-Liberal coalition is back. Do members remember when the NDP leader said, “Liberals are too weak, too selfish and too beholden to corporate interests to fight for people”? He should win an acting award. He announced his confidence again in the Liberal Prime Minister, and together they will continue their plan of quadrupling the carbon tax to 61¢ a litre. Here is a common-sense solution: axe the carbon tax on everything for everyone, forever; cheaper gas, groceries, and home heating and everything that is shipped.

Will the Prime Minister call a carbon tax election now?

Carbon Pricing November 22nd, 2024

Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister tried to distract Canadians with a sudden two-month temporary tax trick. The NDP-Liberals have doubled housing costs, doubled food bank use and doubled the debt. In just a few months, the NDP-Liberals plan to raise taxes on all the very same items they claim they are giving Canadians a tax break on. Common-sense Conservatives will axe the carbon tax on everything for everyone, forever, and take the GST off new homes sold to stimulate homebuilding and save families money.

Volunteerism in Kelowna—Lake Country November 22nd, 2024

Mr. Speaker, as we approach the Christmas and holiday season, I want to recognize the many amazing not-for-profits and charities and the generosity of our community, which I call the spirit of Kelowna—Lake Country. There is the Santa Bus, the RCMP Stuff a Cruiser Campaign, the Kelowna Santas and so many more.

Our local food banks and other organizations have record numbers of people coming to them looking for help. If people are able to, they should support local food banks or any number of the many not-for-profits and charities serving people or helping animals in our community. Volunteering time can be one of the most valuable gifts. I also encourage everyone to buy local and to support our local small businesses, including farmers and the many artists and entrepreneurs at Christmas craft fairs.

As we spend time with our loved ones this season, let us also reach out to those who may be by themselves. I thank all people who have servant hearts and who work tirelessly to help others.

Housing November 18th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, after nine years, the NDP-Liberals are not worth the cost of housing. The failing Liberal housing plan is not building more homes. Housing starts are down last month compared to 2023. They are down 11% in Canada, 30% in B.C. and 87% in Kelowna. I have talked to home builders and residents in my community, who all support the common-sense Conservative plan to axe the GST on new homes sold for under a million dollars.

Will the NDP-Liberals agree with home builders and families and axe the GST on new homes sold?

Housing November 4th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, even the Liberal housing adviser, Mike P. Moffatt, on the failed Liberal housing plan said, “the federal Liberals have lost the plot”. Habitat for Humanity said reducing GST would reduce costs. Canadian Home Builders Association said it “will make a big difference”. Canadian Real Estate Association said, “This proposed step is a positive move toward lowering building costs, increasing housing supply, and making homeownership more attainable for Canadians.”

Will the NDP-Liberals axe the GST on housing so more young Canadians can finally buy a home?

Housing November 4th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, after nine years of these NDP-Liberals, they are not worth the cost of housing. Fifty per cent of young Canadians have abandoned the dream of buying a home one day. Rent, mortgage and down payment costs have all doubled. Common-sense Conservatives will axe the federal sales tax on new homes sold. On an $800,000 house, this will save homebuyers $40,000 or $2,200 a year in mortgage payments. Our plan means more housing for young Canadians desperately trying to enter the housing market for the first time.

Will the NDP-Liberals axe the GST on housing for more young Canadians so they can finally buy a home?

Housing November 1st, 2024

Mr. Speaker, the housing minister himself said that the program does not actually lead to the construction of specific homes.

Conservatives will end failed Liberal housing programs that led to the doubling of rent, mortgages and down payment costs. The Canadian Real Estate Association said that the Conservative plan to axe the sales tax on homes is a positive move forward, lowering building costs, increasing housing supply and making home ownership “more attainable for Canadians.”

Housing November 1st, 2024

Mr. Speaker, after nine years of these NDP-Liberals, they are not worth the cost of housing. As just reported by Scotiabank, young Canadians are abandoning the dream of ever owning a home. Over half said that they must delay homebuying plans due to the current economic situation, and more are living with parents or family than just three years ago.

Conservatives will axe the federal sales tax on new homes sold. On an $800,000 house, this is a savings of $40,000 or $2,200 a year in mortgage payments. Will the NDP-Liberals axe the federal GST on housing so that more young Canadians can finally buy a home?

Committees of the House October 31st, 2024

Madam Speaker, I thank the member for his diligent work on this topic. It is incredibly important that we listen to people with lived experience and those serving, supporting and advocating for persons with disabilities, because they are on the front lines. They know what the very important issues are, and they are the ones bringing forward the issues that really need to be addressed. We need to ensure we are protecting the most vulnerable people in our society and in Canada.

Committees of the House October 31st, 2024

Madam Speaker, it is really important to listen to Canadians, especially those serving the most vulnerable of Canadians. Unfortunately, the government did not listen at the outset and delayed the implementation of MAID being available to persons suffering from the sole underlying condition of mental illness.

It is really important that we continue to listen to Canadians who have very strong concerns about this and, in particular, people from within the disability community who have put forth very strong issues and concerns about this as well.
