Taxation December 13th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, our government is bringing real tax relief to Canadians. Tomorrow, December 14, Canadians can celebrate the holidays without having to worry about the extra cost of the GST. This is a big help for Canadians across the country, who will be able to keep more of their hard-earned money.

However, Conservative MPs voted against this tax cut. Could the minister explain to my constituents how this measure can alleviate their tax anxieties during the holiday season?

Tax Relief December 12th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, this holiday, our government followed through on its promise to put more money back into the pockets of Canadians. With a tax cut for everyone, we are making sure that businesses can succeed and that families can have a little less stress this holiday season.

What is the Conservative leader's response? Instead of supporting Canadian workers, the Conservatives are prepared to cut essential services such as child care, health care and pensions, services that Canadians depend upon every day, while doing nothing to reduce costs for families. Canadians deserve better than what the Conservatives are proposing. Our tax cut announcement is a perfect example of how our government is ensuring that workers and families can afford what they need and help save for what they want, while Conservatives shout empty promises.

Committees of the House December 10th, 2024

Madam Speaker, I have the honour to present, in both official languages, the 13th report of the Standing Committee on Science and Research, entitled “Science and Research in Canada’s Arctic in Relation to Climate Change”.

Pursuant to Standing Order 109, the committee requests that the government table a comprehensive response to this report.

Committees of the House December 5th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, I have the honour to present, in both official languages, the 12th report of the Standing Committee on Science and Research, entitled “Distribution of Federal Funding Among Canada's Post-Secondary Institutions”.

Pursuant to Standing Order 109, the committee requests that the government table a comprehensive response to this report.

Housing November 29th, 2024

Madam Speaker, in my riding of Kitchener South—Hespeler, the housing accelerator fund is being praised by municipal partners, non-profit housing providers and my constituents who are seeking options for affordable and accessible housing. The fund will provide over $40 million to Kitchener to fast-track the construction of over 1,200 new homes over the next three years and more than 37,500 homes over the next decade. A few weeks ago, the Conservative leader announced his plan to cut this funding for Kitchener and communities across the country.

Can the minister explain the cost of Conservative cuts—

Families, Children and Social Development November 20th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, today is National Child Day, and families in my riding are receiving their Canada child benefit cheques. This program has supported over six million children. However, families are worried that the Conservative leader will cut this support. The Conservative leader raves about wanting to cut housing projects, child care, pharmacare and much more. Can the Prime Minister please explain to the House how dangerous these cuts would be?

National Defence November 8th, 2024

Madam Speaker, Canadian women and the 2SLGBTQI+ community have played an important role in our country's military efforts. However, many among them have overcome barriers and discrimination. This includes the LGBTQ purge and the sexual misconduct within the Canadian army.

During this Veterans' Week, could the Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth share with the House our government's dedication and support to uplift the Canadian Armed Forces?

Online Harm November 5th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, Bill C-63, the online harms act, is seeking to create a safer online space for all Canadians in this increasingly digital age. Online harms have real-world impacts with tragic, even fatal consequences, and the delays in our Parliament are putting more Canadians at risk every day.

I think of the important work of Carol Todd, the mother of Amanda Todd, the 15-year-old girl who so tragically took her life 12 years ago after being victimized online. Carol stated in an interview, “The filibuster that is happening right now and holding everything up, it's so frustrating. It's just wasting time.... I've waited 12 years for this.”

Unfortunately, the important work the House undertakes has been held up due to Conservative delay tactics, with support from opposition parties. We are working every day to pass important legislation for Canadians from coast to coast to coast, and the Conservatives are working every day to make sure this is not the case.

Dental Care October 31st, 2024

Mr. Speaker, dental care is health care. Today we have hit a milestone of one million Canadians who have already accessed care with our government's Canadian dental care plan.

A single visit to the dentist can cost hundreds of dollars. Canadians should not have to cancel their dental appointment because they cannot afford it.

Could the Minister of Mental Health and Addictions tell the House how the Canadian dental care plan will make life more affordable for Canadians?

Persons Day October 30th, 2024

Mr. Speaker, we recently celebrated national Persons Day, when we remember the Famous Five, prominent Canadian suffragists who advocated for the rights of women and children during the 1880s and 1890s. Their efforts culminated in the landmark case of Edwards v. Canada on October 18, 1929, when the eligibility of women to sit in the Senate chambers here in Canada was recognized.

Emily Murphy, Henrietta Edwards, Nellie McClung, Louise McKinney and Irene Parlby have been immortalized in marble outside the current Senate chambers for us to see daily. I am honoured to rise in this chamber today, alongside many women I am proud to call colleagues, as we recognize this special day and the women who came before us on this journey.
