Carbon Tax  For weeks now, the Liberals have been refusing to provide their secret report on the cost of the carbon tax to Canadian families. This is a desperate and malicious attempt to hide their own data that shows that Canadians are worse off under the disastrous, inflationary carbon tax. The carbon tax pain will cost nearly $2,000 per household in lost GDP, a $30.5-billion hit to our economy.

Carbon Pricing  When asked about reaching their climate goals, the Liberal member for Whitby admitted that they knew their policies would be difficult and painful for Canadians. Now we know that their carbon tax climate policy confirms this, as documented in a secret report that has been covered up by putting a gag order on their budget watchdog. When will the government quit using its unbelievable talking points and release this secret report that proves Canadians are right?

Taxation  When the Liberal MP for Whitby stated that their net-zero goals were going to cause pain, is this what they were talking about? Why does the NDP-Liberal government not axe the carbon tax and lift the taxes on gasoline so Canadians can save that extra $670 over the summer and afford a traditional family camping trip with the kids?

Carbon Pricing  How much more pain will the Liberal-NDP government intentionally inflict upon Canadians before it axes the carbon tax?

Fall Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2023  The NDP-Liberal government's huge commitment to and enthusiasm for raising taxes, especially carbon taxes, has intentionally caused pain and suffering for Canadians. The MP for Whitby actually said here in the House that Canadians should be prepared for a painful transition to net zero.

Fall Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2023  However, when the member brings up that her New Democratic Party is helping lower bills for Canadians, I have to say that I get people sending me their bills every single week with respect to the carbon tax. One senior, who is a wonderful 82-year-old lady from Scotland, has an apartment and just cannot afford it anymore. How is she supposed to live? This crushing of the bourgeoisie between the millstone of inflation and higher taxes has to stop.

National Council for Reconciliation Act  I think this is one of the most important things that the current government has ignored. On the carbon tax issue, Ontario first nations are having to sue the government. The member spoke about the excellent announcement that our leader gave yesterday with respect to the importance of giving back certainty and control to first nations.

Christmas  “No more scandals, mismanagement, no ethical lapses; I'll build you more homes and axe carbon taxes.” Canadians know that our country's not lost, It's just that these Liberals are not worth the cost. We have great people, resources and land. Canadians have culture—our future's not bland.

Business of Supply  His colleague, my neighbour from Whitby, admitted last year that they knew that going to net zero is going to cause a lot of pain, and now we are going to get a quadrupling of the carbon tax. Could the member please let us know whether there are further policies that are in the pipe that will cause more pain and difficulty, such that Canadians will not be able to pay for a roof over their head and for food to feed their children?

Liberal Party of Canada  While the Prime Minister lives it up, seniors are paying twice the amount for rent and have to choose between food and energy. With the new carbon tax, gas will go up another 41¢ per litre. To make things worse, the Liberals' catch-and-release “justice” makes our streets less safe, and by decriminalizing hard drugs, we are seeing record overdoses and violent crime skyrocketing.

Carbon Pricing  Madam Speaker, while the Prime Minister stays in a swanky $6,000-a-night hotel struggling with just one butler, Sue, a senior in my riding, sees herself working three days a week. Why? It is because this costly NDP-Liberal coalition is set to raise its carbon tax again at midnight, meaning that Sue and all Canadians are going to pay more for heating, eating, driving and living. Perhaps it should focus on a real climate plan instead of punishing Canadians with a carbon tax.

Carbon Pricing  I just received a propane bill from a mother of three. It was $614 for propane and $55 for the Liberal carbon tax, and winter is just starting. This is getting vindictive. A carbon tax will triple home heating, gas and food. While the Prime Minister spends Canadian tax dollars on ritzy $6000-a-night hotels, Canadians are suffering.

Strengthening Environmental Protection for a Healthier Canada Act  I brought up the issue of the straw, because literally millions of straws are used every year, and it is absolutely going in the wrong direction. Add that to some of the other Liberal policies, like the carbon tax, for example, which we see has done absolutely nothing to lower emissions. Let us look at the record of the Liberal Party. It has not actually met any of its targets. We can talk, and we can kind of massage things, but at the end of the day, Conservatives on this side want results.

Strengthening Environmental Protection for a Healthier Canada Act  However, we are successful at recycling, and we can get better, but we cannot put in something that is going to be doing the exact opposite of what we should be doing. As I said, we have so many issues here with the carbon tax, and I could go on and on about that: how it is increasing our costs and decreasing our competitiveness. What we want to see as Conservatives is something that is really going to be effective in lowering greenhouse gases and doing something positive for the environment.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I come from Oshawa, which has significant export business. What my colleague may not understand is that carbon taxes affect the expenses for business, which affects our competitiveness. The reality is that the Liberals do not have an environment plan. What they have is a failed tax plan that has done absolutely nothing to decrease emissions.
