Violence Against Pregnant Women Act  Madam Speaker, in her speech, my colleague from Yorkton-Melville talked about a majority of Canadians. She is certainly not talking about a majority of Quebeckers. She brought up the Conservative difference; I am talking about the Quebec difference. Recently, Quebec's minister responsible for the status of women expressed concern for women's right to abortion.

Privilege  Madam Speaker, I share the Leader of the Opposition's concerns. In fact, that is why, earlier this year, I went to meet with professors and researchers at the Université de Sherbrooke who specialize in cybercrime issues. They were eager to talk to me and share their concerns. They shared the results of their research with me.

Court Challenges Program Act  Madam Speaker, I rise today to speak about Bill C‑316, an act to amend the Department of Canadian Heritage Act, specifically with respect to the court challenges program. The Bloc Québécois supports this bill in principle. We would like to look at Bill C‑316 in committee and make recommendations.

Red Dress Day  Madam Chair, one thing is certain: An alert system could engage the public. I answered that question earlier. Beyond what we as elected officials can do and what the government can do, there is also a need to raise public awareness of this issue. I hope that we can open up a broader debate and make people aware of the fact that, in 2023, indigenous communities are disproportionately victimized.

Red Dress Day  Madam Chair, there is a clear link between women who are victims of violence, both indigenous and non-indigenous, and precarious financial situations. We must work on making these indigenous women and girls financially self-sufficient again. There are many ways to give them the financial means they need to escape the cycle of violence.

Red Dress Day  Madam Chair, I thank my colleague from Manicouagan for her question. Unfortunately, I do not know why we are here once again. I so wish I did not have to be here tonight talking about this issue. I wish that when we talk about feminism, we could put words into action. It is not right that, in 2023, we still have to point out that indigenous women and girls are being killed simply because they are indigenous women and girls, because they are victims of discrimination.

Red Dress Day  Madam Chair, one thing is certain. It is well worth looking into this issue of the alert. In my speech, I talked about the government and about us as elected officials. I talked about the wrongs that have been done over the years. Since we are talking about action, I think that we are at the point now where we need to raise public awareness of this issue and recognize that missing and murdered indigenous women and girls do not receive the same treatment as others do.

Red Dress Day  Madam Chair, it is with a great deal of emotion that I rise this evening on behalf of the Bloc Québécois to close this debate after my incredible colleague from Manicouagan, who spoke earlier this evening. From the outset, I would like to remind the House that our political party has repeatedly reiterated its commitment to being an ally to the first nations.

Red Dress Day  Madam Chair, I went to Winnipeg last month, and one victim told me she did not want to continue, she was fed up, she wanted to give up and that she was hearing a lot of rhetoric but seeing little in the way of action plans. What does the member think of the fact that, for many years, successive governments have not produced the results that communities want and expect?

What stands out for me tonight, as a member of the Standing Committee on the Status of Women, is the number of times we have talked about this issue and the number of reports that have been completed on missing and murdered indigenous women and girls.

Budget Implementation Act, 2023, No. 1  Madam Speaker, my colleague made a quick reference to the carbon tax in his speech. However, what farmers have been asking for is the supply management bill, which is critical. That is the real way to help them. That is what Quebec's farmers are asking for. My colleague from Saint-Hyacinthe—Bagot asked a question earlier about why certain members filibustered in committee and delayed work on this important bill.

Budget Implementation Act, 2023, No. 1  Madam Speaker, yet again, I hear the Liberals touting the grocery rebate as proof that they are finally going to help people out of their current financial difficulties. Would my colleague not agree with every seniors group in Quebec when they say that it is hard to argue with a good thing, but that what they really need is an increase in old age security for all seniors starting at age 65?

Budget Implementation Act, 2023, No. 1  Madam Speaker, today is International Workers' Day. My colleague just spoke about an issue that affects women, namely child care. Employment insurance is another issue that disproportionately affects women. On this International Workers' Day, would my colleague acknowledge that, in the last budget, money should have been invested in a truly comprehensive reform of EI in order to address these shortcomings that penalize women?

He seemed sincere in his belief that a one-time cheque to help pay for groceries, in a time of high inflation, would really help people like seniors who are in a precarious financial situation deal with both rising rent and grocery costs.

What the seniors in my riding, in Quebec, are asking me for and what they talk to me about is a little more direct assistance to help them get through this crisis.
