Medical Assistance in Dying committee  I'm talking about a patient saying, “Okay, I am coming to the end of my willingness to pursue palliative care, and now I'd like to discuss MAID.”

Medical Assistance in Dying committee  This is the question. When patients choose MAID at this point, what do you do?

Medical Assistance in Dying committee  I'm not asking that question. My time is very short. I would like to know what it is that you do when a patient says that. What do you do? Do you call a local MAID provider?

Medical Assistance in Dying committee  No, if they're going through palliative, they've understood that. Now they've come to a new conclusion.

Medical Assistance in Dying committee  Thank you very much. I have a question for Leonie Herx. MAID is the law of the land. You understand that, correct?

Medical Assistance in Dying committee  You have said, in answer to one of my colleague's questions, that you've not really surveyed your clinicians on the question of MAID specifically, and whether they would offer it. You said no palliative care clinician would want to do that. Are you saying that palliative care clinicians, if asked by a patient to discuss MAID or to have someone come in and hear their request for it or to explain the options, would refuse to do so?

Medical Assistance in Dying committee  No, I'm not talking about hastening their death. If they say, “I've been through the palliative process. I personally see this as a continuum. I would like to go to the next step now and choose MAID”, what do you do? Do you bring in someone who will discuss this? Do you give them access?

Medical Assistance in Dying committee  I'm sorry. I think there was crosstalk there, but if you're asking me to go ahead, I will. Thank you. Before I ask my questions I'm wondering whether, Mr. Pageau, you would provide any evidence from the Netherlands about cases of people who have been forced against their will to, I think you said, sign documents.

Medical Assistance in Dying committee  Thank you. I want to voice some concerns about our timing as well. The Senate has been reduced to one committee meeting a week for our committees, so it's crucial that we not miss those. We're all in the same position of cramming before the end of June. What days are even under consideration?
