Public Accounts committee  I was the one who asked that question, Mr. Chair. The moment I concluded my round—this was the first round of questioning to the Auditor General—the first member of the Liberal bench who had the floor moved to adjourn. I believe it was Ms. Khalid who moved to adjourn. They had the votes to adjourn the meeting, thereby wasting the ability of the Auditor General to shed light on the full parameters of this ArriveCAN audit.

Industry committee  This smaller chapter of those abuses is important, but I think we need to remind ourselves of some that have taken place over the years. I remember that one of the first ones I dealt with was Bell Canada not giving pay equity to the women in Bell Canada. That was one of the first meetings we had in Ottawa. The CEO at the time, who is now hired by the Liberals, had to be dragged before our industry committee about that issue.

Environment committee  These agreements will enable them to participate fully in the co-operative management of five national parks. This is essential. Across Canada, first nations, Inuit and Métis communities are disproportionately affected by climate change. They know their ancestral lands. They know how to recognize signs of imbalance in the environment.

Speaker of the House of Commons  Even if we were to not consider the Liberal convention he participated in, on the afternoon of December 1, he undertook an interview with Laura Stone of The Globe and Mail. He paid tribute to outgoing Ontario Liberal Party interim leader John Fraser in glowing terms. He referred to Mr. Fraser's work on behalf of “our party.” He was calm, cool and collected; he took an interview request with a reporter from a national newspaper and offered opinions and comments on an active member of the provincial legislature.

Fall Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2023  My fondest memories are of berry picking with Mary Simon in Kuujjuaq, tea with Maria Campbell at Gabriel's Crossing in Saskatchewan and ceremony with Sylvia Maracle at her office in Toronto. So many first nations, Inuit and Métis leaders and young people have been there to teach and correct my mistakes. I have described seven settler learnings, which could help all of us join on the journey of humility and reconciliation.

Indigenous Services  There have always been two great sins in our country. One great sin are the things that we have done to first nations, Métis and Inuit: incarceration, reserves, the shooting of dog teams, the taking away of languages from children. The other great sin in this country is that it failed to tell Canadians the truth.

Carbon Pricing  Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister's Christmas gift to Canadians is two costly carbon taxes, driving up the cost of food, fuel and home heating. However, premiers and first nations across this country are demanding that he axe the carbon tax because they know that this Prime Minister is not worth the cost.

Environment committee  To top it off, think of transboundary watersheds with the United States, such as the Saint John River, Lake Winnipeg, the Columbia River or the Great Lakes as a whole. Much work must be done on transboundary watersheds. Of course, the federal government must address the issue of reconciliation with the first nations and their vital shared role in water management, particularly in a number of Canadian provinces.

Carbon Pricing  After eight years, the NDP-Liberal government is not worth the cost. Will the Prime Minister cancel his plan to quadruple the tax on families, first nations and farmers?

Carbon Pricing  Mr. Speaker, it is merry Christmas and I guess the member opposite does not realize what country she is in, but the merry Christmas gift from this Prime Minister to farmers is what? It is a billion-dollar carbon tax bill in their stocking, quadrupling that carbon tax under the tree; and the gift from the Prime Minister's Liberal loyalists in the Senate is to cancel Bill C-234, preventing a carbon-tax carve-out for farmers.

Indigenous Services  Madam Chair, I want to thank my colleague. The member talked about consultation and right now, Indigenous Services Canada, or ISC, has been changing funding formulas for education without even talking to the nations that are impacted, so it is hard for them to continue doing their programming with new formulas.

Fisheries committee  I started as a river guardian and worked at all levels in the organization, as a fishery officer, a supervisor and a manager, and then as director of C and P for the Newfoundland and Labrador region. As director, I was part of the national executive team for C and P and contributed to program development and management across the country. As director in St. John's, I was responsible for Canada's offshore monitoring and compliance program, protecting our 200-mile limit as well as the straddling stocks.

Canadian Environmental Bill of Rights  Before I speak to the bill, I want to acknowledge that I am grateful to the Algonquin Anishinabe people and that we are here on their unceded territory. I am grateful for their environmental stewardship and the leadership of many first nations, Inuit and Métis communities and individuals who continue to advocate for stronger environmental protections for present and future generations. I also want to acknowledge the work that a fellow New Democrat and former MP, Linda Duncan, has done to make the bill a reality.

Indigenous Services  Mr. Chair, I would like to direct the question to the parliamentary secretary related to how this work helps with reconciliation. Many Canadians follow the relationship between Canada and the indigenous peoples. We have disappointed this relationship time and time again, as the Crown.

Canadian Environmental Bill of Rights  If Bill C-226 passes, the national strategy would provide an opportunity to examine the link between race, socio-economic status and exposure to environmental risk, as well as to discuss how best to address environmental risks faced by historically marginalized communities.
