Government Operations committee  Non-medical masks, which provide better clarity over cloth masks, are available in the room. Everyone present must maintain proper hand hygiene using the hand sanitizer at the room entrance. Committee rooms are cleaned before and after each meeting, but to help us maintain this, we encourage everybody to clean the surfaces such as their desks, their chair and their microphone with the provided disinfectant wipes when vacating or taking a seat.

National Defence committee  When we were doing research on the ROTP, which was requested by RMC, we asked to have access to the exit interviews of cadets who were releasing. We did not want to have names. We clearly asked for the data to be sanitized. We just wanted to get an understanding. That access was denied. There are some organizations that don't gather exit interviews within the forces. Some do, but then they don't really do anything with them.

Industry committee  There is no doubt that the pandemic has highlighted the decline of Canada's manufacturing sector, not only with regard to vaccines but a number of different industries. The remnants have had to transition to doing everything from medical equipment to hand sanitizer made by breweries, a whole series of things that were identified as weaknesses before, while we have signed serious trade agreements that allowed environmental or labour and working conditions to be be used as subsidies against our own manufacturing base.

The Budget  We all remember that Thursday in March just over two years ago when our travel plans were hastily cancelled, when our children came home from school, when we all rushed to the grocery stores to buy toilet paper and hand sanitizer. We realized then that this virus would disrupt our lives, but few of us imagined quite how much or for quite how long, yet here we are. We bent but we did not break. Canadians have done everything that was asked of them and more, so to all of them, to all of us, I want to start by saying, “Thank you.”

Indigenous and Northern Affairs committee  I would also highlight article 21, which states that “indigenous people have the right...to improvement of their economic and social conditions, including...in the areas of education, employment” and “housing”. That is underlined, as well as “sanitation” and “social security”. Most importantly, in point number two, article 21 says, “States shall take effective measures and, where appropriate, special measures to ensure continuing improvement of their economic and social conditions.”

Health  Canadians, residents, foreign workers, truckers, health care workers and many others have steadfastly worn masks, kept their distance, sanitized and followed public health guidelines. They have postponed, as he mentioned, vacations, weddings, birthdays and so much more. They have lined up to take not just one or two but three vaccinations.
