The Environment Mr. Speaker, let us be clear. This is the government that has stalled real action on climate change for years, arguing that we need to harmonize our oil and gas emissions reduction with the U.S. Now that the U.S. is acting, the government is not willing to lift a finger to make meaningful changes to reduce emissions in Canada.

Petitions Mr. Speaker, Hamiltonians, like millions of Canadians, are angry and outraged over the Conservative plan to end home mail delivery. They know that not only are there going to be thousands of jobs lost and that it is going to hurt a lot of our seniors and disabled citizens, they also know that this is an important service.

Business of Supply Mr. Speaker, I thought it was interesting that the parliamentary secretary affirmed, and we heard from the member for Wellington—Halton Hills, his intention to vote for it. The hon. member in his remarks I believe said that he was planning to vote against it. He is nodding his head yes.

Industry Mr. Speaker, yesterday we saw the Conservative ministers across the way simply wash their hands of the U.S. Steel tragedy. There is no new help for the people whose jobs are on the line. There is no new help for pension funds. And the minister from Nanticoke has been silent. The government has failed to enforce the Investment Canada Act and failed to protect employees' pensions.

Industry Mr. Speaker, the government's answers continue to be muddy, but what is clear is that this is a deliberate attempt to shut down operations and evade pension obligations. U.S. Steel's plan could see 15,000 retirees lose up to half of their pension. What is the Conservative government going to do about it?

Canada Revenue Agency Mr. Speaker, in typically twisted Conservative logic, they are going hard on pensioners but easy on tax cheats. There are new reports today that the Canada Revenue Agency has decided to eliminate 220 auditors, who are responsible for going after tax cheats. Senior auditors, who aggressively root out tax evaders, are being given the boot.

U.S. Steel Canada Mr. Speaker, today families in Hamilton and Nanticoke are reeling from the ominous news that U. S. Steel Canada has filed for bankruptcy protection. Nearly 15,000 workers and retirees are facing potentially devastating losses of their jobs and pensions. Today The Hamilton Spectator said, in part: The federal government has a role to play here....The [Conservative] government approved the sale of Stelco based on job and investment guarantees.

Citizenship and Immigration Mr. Speaker, the humanitarian crisis in Syria has grown beyond all conceivable proportions. This is the greatest refugee crisis since World War II. What we have from the Conservatives is a lot of talk about their intentions but no clarity on their actions when it comes to resettlement in Canada.

Employment Mr. Speaker, still no straight answer. Conservatives are saying they will now, finally, fix the mess they made of the temporary foreign worker program. In fact, they are so proud of their changes, they are actually waiting until after the House has safely risen before they announce their changes.

Employment Mr. Speaker, this is not just some tactical, political event. This is about people's jobs, their wages, and their future. What we do not need is more political leaks and spins. We need action. For instance, has the government been considering a sunshine list, particularly to make the positions and wages, and the levels of those wages, public?

The Environment Mr. Speaker, once again, the people of Hamilton are left in limbo regarding the future of the Randle Reef cleanup. It has been six months to the day since the government announced that funding was there and that the project was a go. Now, we learn from Environment Canada that the project will be put on hold yet again.

Respect for Communities Act Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for this important question, and it gives me a chance to use up some of my other notes. It is important to see who is onside with the way we see it, and not the way the government sees it. Well, a little outfit called the Canadian Medical Association happens to believe this is important enough for it comment on, and I quote: Supervised injection programs are an important harm reduction strategy.

Respect for Communities Act Mr. Speaker, I certainly agree with my colleague. In fact, just within the last few days, I was standing in exactly the same place making an issue about the fact that the current government passes laws that it knows will not survive a charter challenge, even though it has a requirement to check that ahead of time.
