Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, as the hon. member for Mission—Matsqui—Fraser Canyon said, Canadians have to be reminded where the government has invested, but under the Harper government there was not a single dollar invested in Highway 1. Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, if the member for Beauce came to Surrey and talked to the mayor, councillors and the people of Surrey, they would tell the hon. member about the benefits they have received through the infrastructure investments, whether it was investments in the Simon Fraser University campus in Surrey, the Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Surrey, the SkyTrain moving through Surrey or the widening of Highway 1.

I am happy because it is asking for something that has already been done, so it makes my job easier. Supplementary Estimates (A), 2019-20  Mr. Chair, in his previous capacity, the minister was present for the groundbreaking for 173 affordable housing units in Surrey—Newton, 73 of which are completed and people have moved in. I would ask the minister if that strategy is going to continue and how it is going to help homelessness.

Today I noticed that Employment and Social Development Canada is requesting funds for the first-time home buyer incentive program. Could the minister explain how these funds would be used?

Resumption of debate on Address in Reply  Mr. Speaker, I first landed in Canada in 1984 in Alberta. I went to the University of Calgary to get my engineering degree. I lived there for eight years and had two beautiful daughters born there. I am a very proud Canadian. I can tell members that all the work that we are doing, whether reducing taxes for ordinary working-class families, providing first-time home buyer incentives or investing in the pipeline, is going to help Albertans.

Canada–United States–Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Mr. Speaker, I work with the member for Sault Ste. Marie on the international trade committee. When it came to the tariffs on steel and aluminum, the member showed great leadership. He mentored us in the right direction. We were able to get a deal done that his constituents wanted.

Canada–United States–Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Mr. Speaker, I want to thank the hon. member for raising the issue of supply management. It was the Conservatives that wanted to eliminate supply management and it was our government that protected it so our farmers can do well in the coming years.

Canada–United States–Mexico Agreement Implementation Act  Mr. Speaker, I will be splitting my time with the hon. member for Rivière-des-Mille-Îles, whom I had the opportunity to work with on the Standing Committee on International Trade before she became the deputy whip. She did excellent work for her constituents and for Canadians. Strong and diverse trade is key to Canada's economy.
