Foreign Affairs  Mr. Speaker, the Liberals said that other countries have not declared ISIS's actions to be genocide. However, perhaps my Liberal colleagues do not know that today, the U.S. Secretary of State, Mr. Kerry, and Hillary Clinton said that the atrocities that are being committed constitute genocide.

Foreign Affairs  Mr. Speaker, it is becoming increasingly clear that the Liberals will cave in to Chinese belligerence at the drop of a proverbial hat. Last week, at the insistence of the Chinese government, the Prime Minister bowed to demands to meet not with the president but with the foreign minister, who then took time out of his busy schedule to berate a Canadian journalist while our foreign minister kept as quiet as a church mouse.

Foreign Affairs  Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister is making plenty of time today to meet with China's minister of foreign affairs, Mr. Wang Yi, but can he tell us, did he stand up for our interests and condemn China's aggressive activities in the South China Sea, activities that are seriously upsetting stability in the region?

Foreign Affairs  Mr. Speaker, now the cat is out of the bag. The Minister of Foreign Affairs caved in to the Putin regime in exchange for a seat at the International Syria Support Group table this week. It is clear that the minister broke a Liberal campaign promise to implement the Magnitsky Act in order to secure an invite from his new friend, Putin.

Foreign Affairs  Mr. Speaker, what is the point of being sought for our advice when we are turning away from Canada's values and Canada's interests? Instead of implementing the Magnitsky Act as promised, the Minister of Foreign Affairs is now musing vaguely about making changes to Canada's Special Economic Measures Act, another Liberal weak-kneed response, another broken promise.

Foreign Affairs  Mr. Speaker, the motion was passed unanimously in the previous Parliament. Yesterday, Bill Browder, who is seeking justice for Sergei Magnitsky, indicated that the Minister of Foreign Affairs just wanted to make nice with Russia. Mr. Browder was disappointed that the government is not going to change the Special Economic Measures Act, which excludes corrupt officials, human rights violators, and torturers.

Foreign Affairs  Mr. Speaker, in The Globe and Mail yesterday, the worldwide champion of the Magnitsky Act, Mr. Bill Browder, called the foreign affairs minister's rejection of the legislation an outright betrayal. He is horrified about why we are lagging behind our U.S. and European allies and not enacting this legislation immediately.

Iran  Mr. Speaker, yesterday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs said the previous Conservative government withdrew from Iran because we disliked the regime. However, let us be clear. Not only do we dislike this regime; we abhor this regime. Iran wants to destroy Israel. Iran imprisons and tortures its own people.

Iran  Mr. Speaker, there are numerous victims of terror currently attempting to collect damages in Canadian courts for brutal actions carried out by the regime in Tehran. However, the Liberals' insistence on buddying up to Iran will have a negative impact on these significant proceedings.

Iran  Mr. Speaker, since last week, billions of dollars in new revenues have gone into the coffers of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Ayatollah Khamenei referred to Hezbollah as a source of honour and pride for the Islamic world. The minister has not publicly condemned this despicable statement.

Iran  Mr. Speaker, the cat is really out of the bag now. It was reported today that talks between the Liberal government and Iran to re-establish diplomatic ties are well under way. Despite the minister's protestations in the House yesterday that Iran will remain listed as a state sponsor of terror, it is clear that the Canadian government is on the fast track to normalize relations with Tehran.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I thank the hon. member for his thoughtful question. Indeed, as a former provincial minister of health and federal minister of health, I think it is important that we find ways to integrate and coordinate our care for the individual. That is absolutely correct. I would also, though, mention to the hon. member that in my consultations with those in the palliative care infrastructure in my riding, they were not exactly thrilled with the prospect that they would be associated with physician-assisted dying.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, that same thought had crossed my mind. I was originally supposed to be speaking at 3:20 p.m. It is nowhere near that time now. The only conclusion I could come to is that hon. members on the Liberal side of the House were declining their speaking spots. Maybe there is some great dissension going on in the Liberal caucus right now over the bill, that all of a sudden the bill is not as popular as the manipulators on that side of the House thought it was going to be and now they want to shut down debate not only for those of us on this side of the House, but on their own side of the House as well.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I did not mean to start off my remarks by commenting on this situation of closing debate and calling the question, but this is an absolute shambles, and is making a mockery of what is supposed to be an important debate among members. Most of us have the right to have a free vote on this issue.

Petitions  Mr. Speaker, it is fitting that during Iran Accountability Week on the Hill, I rise in the House today to present a petition put forward by the Canadian Coalition Against Terror and signed by dozens of Canadians, who call for the Government of Canada to maintain a listing of the Islamic Republic of Iran as a state sponsor of terrorism, pursuant to section 6.1 of the State Immunity Act.
