Public Safety committee  Amendment BQ‑16 concerns the Commissioner's annual report and specifies that this report must be tabled in the House of Commons and the Senate instead of being given to the minister, in order to ensure greater transparency. This is a recommendation made by several witnesses, including Mr. Thomas Juneau, who said it would be a good practice.

Public Safety committee  I'm just curious. When it says, “at any time on address of the Senate and House of Commons”, I'm not sure of the word “address” there in the English part. Does it mean “at any time on the recommendation of the Senate?” It's confusing to me. Can you explain?

Public Safety committee  That would mean that in order for the commissioner to be removed, they would have to be removed after an address, on address of the Senate and House of Commons. It means that a resolution of the House of Commons and a resolution of the Senate would have to be adopted in order for the commissioner to be removed from office.

Public Safety committee  We wish to amend line 22 on page 78 to read, “at any time on address of the Senate and House of Commons”. This amendment would add the Senate and the House of Commons to the revocation process.

Business of Supply  That is why the Bloc Québécois “request[s] the terms of reference of the foreign interference commission…to be expanded to allow it to investigate Canada's federal democratic institutions, including members of the House of Commons elected in the 43rd and 44th Parliaments as well as Senators.” We must choose to make history rather than endure it. Great danger calls for great courage. The Bloc Québécois is moving this motion so that trust can be restored. I ask all my colleagues to have courage.

Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act  That should not happen in Canada. The Conservatives have introduced an amendment to reject the Senate amendments and demand that the bill be passed in its original form, which would support our farmers and our families. When we tax the farmer that grows the food and we tax the trucker that delivers the food, we ultimately tax the Canadian consumer who consumes and buys the food.

Budget Implementation Act, 2024, No. 1  In my first 60 days as prime minister, I will name a task force of entrepreneurs, inventors, farmers and workers, but no lobbyists. This task force will design a tax reform for lower taxes that would, one, bring home hiring and more powerful paycheques to Canada; two, bring home fairness by reducing the share of the tax burden paid by the poor and working class while cracking down on overseas tax havens and tackling government-funded corporate welfare; and, three, bring home 20% less paperwork by simplifying the tax rules.

Democratic Institutions  Mr. Speaker, Canadians expect their elected representatives here and their senators to work in their interest. I am pleased to hear the minister's response, but I would like him to confirm whether the Prime Minister will officially submit to Justice Hogue the names of the MPs, or perhaps the senators, who have been implicated in disseminating intelligence to hostile states.

Library of Parliament committee  We finally have a definite answer. We can now get ready for the grand opening. Are there any further questions, MPs or senators? Thank you, Mrs. Ivory, for being here and for giving our members of Parliament and senators the opportunity to ask you a few questions. Colleagues, the second item on today's agenda concerns future business.

Library of Parliament committee  Thank you, senator. The committee's mandate under the legislation is to help the Speakers manage and oversee the Library of Parliament. Over the years, the Library's officials have always been readily available and open to the idea of appearing more often before the committee.

Library of Parliament committee  Thank you for your question, senator. Obviously, the Library's values must be neutral and impartial. However, an analysis involves taking a position and accessing the available information. An impartial approach to our analyses often means being able to show both sides of the story and provide a balanced analysis.

Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act  If the Liberal government refuses to axe the carbon tax, at the very least, it must consider supporting the proposal to reject the Senate amendments to Bill C-234. The government must pass the important legislation, in its original form, so that we can get back to supporting farmers and families. Then, farmers can once again feed Canadians.
