Carbon Pricing  It must have heard from the Parliamentary Budget Officer that the cost to Newfoundlanders of the carbon tax this year will be $1,874 for the average Newfoundland and Labrador family. What will their rebate be?

Carbon Pricing  In other words, next year alone, after this forthcoming hike, the average Alberta family will pay $1,100 more in carbon taxes than he gives back in his phony cheques. Will the Prime Minister tell us if he understands that $2,900 is bigger than $1,800?

Carbon Pricing  Speaker, that is demonstrably false, because Nova Scotia actually has a climate change plan, which he rejected and overrode with a federal carbon tax that is opposed by New Democrats, Liberals and Conservatives unanimously in the province's legislature. I noticed he would not answer my question. He has been bragging about these rebates, but then when we talk about the cost, all of a sudden, he forgets the rebates.

Carbon Pricing  It will be that Canadians get more money with the Canada carbon rebate. Eighty per cent of Canadian households, in areas where the federal carbon tax applies, get more money every year from the Canada carbon rebate than they pay in the price on pollution. On top of that, we are fighting climate change, making our industries more competitive and preparing a better future.

Request for Emergency Debate  I ask you to find the compassion, the urgency and the common sense to grant our request for an emergency debate on the April 1 Liberal-NDP carbon tax hike.

Carbon Pricing  As if prices were not high enough already, the Prime Minister is planning a 23% hike on the carbon tax in a cruel April Fool's Day joke. However, the tax revolt is happening, as 70% of Canadians and 70% of premiers are opposed and fighting back, just like in Saskatchewan, where the budget watchdog has determined that Saskatchewan families will pay an extra $2,620 in carbon taxes.

Carbon Pricing  Speaker, after eight years of the NDP-Liberal Prime Minister, food bank usage in Toronto is up 500%. Now Liberals want to hike the carbon tax on gas, groceries and home heating by 23% on their way to quadrupling the tax over the next six years. What a cruel April Fool's Day joke. According to the Parliamentary Budget Officer, the average Ontario family will pay $1,674 of carbon tax.

Carbon Tax  Mr. Speaker, seven out of 10 premiers around the country have stood against the Liberal carbon tax. Now even the Liberal Premier of Newfoundland has come out and said that it is not working and that it is not worth the cost. The Prime Minister responded by saying, “I think Mr. Furey is continuing to bow to political pressure.”

Government Operations committee  Thank you very much, Mr. Chair. I was hoping that we could have a discussion about the looming carbon tax hike that the Prime Minister is planning for April 1. You did a comprehensive study of the carbon tax, and you not only looked at the direct cost but also at the total cost. On page 3 of the report, it says “Household net cost of the federal fuel charge—fiscal and economic impacts”.

Industry committee  Is the 23% increase in the carbon tax going to result in increased costs for cellphone rates and wire line users?

Government Operations committee  I'm not sure the carbon tax and the price on carbon has a significant impact on housing prices. It's mostly related to supply and demand for housing, so I don't see that pausing an increase in the carbon tax would have a significant impact, certainly not a measurable impact, on housing prices.

Government Operations committee  Overall, if I understand correctly, eight out of 10 households, mainly low-income households, receive and will receive a little more money than they pay in carbon tax annually, and mainly the wealthiest are penalized, ultimately. Is that correct?

Fisheries committee  Well, then somebody has poor accounting. There's no carbon tax on diesel fuel and gasoline used in commercial fisheries, which is the same as in farming. That is a fact. Based on that, I would call for us to adjourn the debate on this motion at this time.
