Economic Action Plan 2014 Act, No. 1  The Conservatives' changes to Canadian society do not happen in a vacuum. They impact real Canadians who are hurting. The government needs to learn to see the hurt and to respond. Our community is seeing real economic challenges. The government seems out of touch when it talks about this recovery as if it were a uniform recovery that is affecting and helping people in all regions of the country.

Procedure and House Affairs committee  This is his statement on the necessity of a cross-country tour to give Canadians an adequate opportunity to learn about the bill. It includes statements from real Canadians. I'm going to read that in just one moment. But I wanted to underscore the fact that with so many experts available to us we are not necessarily confined to Tuesdays and Thursdays in terms of when we meet.

The Budget  There is nothing to help veterans make ends meet and nothing to deal with the fact that the Canadian middle class has not had a decent raise in over 30 years. Indeed, government priorities come shining through, not the needs of real Canadians. Government priorities are not in touch with the priorities of most Canadian families. That is enough generalities. Let us take a look at the budget in a more specific way. The government would have us believe that it has set aside money to help veterans, but in reality, veterans have been left out in the cold.

Business of Supply  However, that was a minority government. That was when there was a much stronger sense of the real Canadian democracy that we know. We have the floor at committee, call it a filibuster. It is not much of a filibuster; it has only gone one meeting. Nonetheless, we have the floor and we are not relinquishing it.

Business of Supply  It shows the incredible disconnect between the Liberals and Conservatives and what is happening with real Canadians right now in 2014. We have the highest record of household debt ever, at 166%. We have mortgage debt over $1.1 trillion. Consumer credit debt has reached $500 billion. Average debt for the average person is now about $30,000.

Combating Counterfeit Products Act  The inferior nature of these knock-off goods then serves to tarnish the reputation of quality that the real Canadian business has worked so hard to establish. However, counterfeit products are not simply a threat to Canadian businesses. Counterfeit automobile parts, counterfeit circuit breakers, counterfeit drugs, and many more dangerous counterfeit products also pose a threat to the health and safety of Canadians.

Business of Supply  Yet, this government's vision involves sending 40,000 good jobs out of the country, when those jobs could have stayed here in Canada. A real Canadian strategy should give preference to Canadian refiners when it comes to providing energy in order to serve Canadians and our interests first, and all at the best price on the international market.

Economic Action Plan 2013 Act, No. 1  As a professional engineer, I highly support the bill, as it would truly provide a concrete foundation addressing real Canadian issues and would build Canada's future economic strength for many years to come, in order to maintain our country as one of the best places in the world to live, raise a family, work and start a business.

The Economy  Speaker, no wonder Canadians are frustrated when they compare government pronouncements of economic strength with the pressures actually being felt by real Canadians in the middle class. They sent MPs to represent their voices in Ottawa, but they got representatives of the PMO in their communities. Could the Minister of Finance please tell real Canadians the anticipated impacts on them of even a 1% rise in interest rates on their households?

Fair Rail Freight Service Act  In order to see the unemployment rate and the number of unemployed workers drop, Canadians will have to wait for a real Canadian government. Until then, this bill is a step in the right direction. We cannot change the past, but we can ensure that the public services provided by private companies are offered in a responsible manner.

Committees of the House  It is as if the people on that side of the House are out of touch with reality. They are out of touch with real people and real Canadians and what they suffer. With many immigrant families who come here, both of them are working. They are working two jobs and trying to make ends meet. They are trying to build something.

Agriculture committee  So we needed clear Canadian regulation that would say that this is what Canadian whisky is, so that when we go to Japan the Japanese government can differentiate between real Canadian products and fake Canadian products.

Agriculture committee  Our company, as an example, actually has staff in Alberta who work for us on the ground, selling to the different retailers, whether it's Costco, the Real Canadian Superstore, or Willow Park. They are advocates of our brand. The way it sets up in the private marketplace in Alberta is that the AGLC has a warehouse, they run the warehousing side of it.

Business of Supply  Yes, the Senate is an embarrassment, an embarrassment to Canadians from one end of this country to the other. It is an embarrassment to real Canadian politicians like the elected members of Parliament in the House today. I have no excuses for the Mike Duffys of this country who take months to figure out exactly where they live.

Blue Sky Policy  In this context, it is fair to say that the search for real benefits for Canadians is at the core of the decision to negotiate new or expanded agreements; otherwise, the government simply does not proceed. The principle of real Canadian benefits is embedded in the policy. This is why the government takes issues related to a level playing field and the displacement of current air services very seriously. For instance, when we identify risk factors related to direct or indirect support by foreign states, or when a foreign carrier would reasonably be expected to offer a level of service that could reduce or eliminate competition on some routes, we would take a more prudent position.
