Seniors  Mr. Speaker, my thanks to the member for her advocacy of seniors. From the very beginning, our government has worked extremely hard to support those most vulnerable seniors, including strengthening their GIS. We know that GIS adjustments have been hard on some seniors this year.

Health  Mr. Speaker, this week is National Nursing Week. Nurses across Canada have made tremendous sacrifices to keep us safe and protected from COVID-19, and we thank them for their dedication, commitment and compassion. As a proud registered nurse myself, I have seen those sacrifices first-hand, while working alongside incredible nurses in long-term care hard hit in the first wave in Brampton, and now on the other side by vaccinating as many Canadians as possible.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, in my comments earlier, I talked a lot about what we had been able to do, but certainly there is a need to do a lot more, because the system did fail. That is why, along with the work we were able to do last week, we announced that Madame Arbour would conduct an independent review into the Canadian Armed Forces, including the creation of an external reporting system that would be independent from the chain of command and would meet the needs of all those impacted by sexual misconduct and violence.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, as I mentioned in my speech, and as the Minister of National Defence has always said, first and foremost, there is absolutely no tolerance for misconduct. I agree with the member that institutional cultural change is complex and takes a lot of time, and the time for patience is over.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, the member is absolutely right. The motion does not address any of the things the Conservatives say they care about. On the work we have been doing, we announced that Madame Arbour would conduct an independent review into the Canadian Armed Forces, including the creation of an external reporting system that would independent from the chain of command.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, our government has absolutely no tolerance for misconduct. We followed, and the Minister of National Defence followed, the proper process, which is the same process the previous government followed. I find it hypocritical for the Conservative Party to ask questions about what could have been done and what did not happen.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I will be sharing my time with my good friend, the member of Parliament for Oakville North—Burlington, whom I have the privilege of working alongside on so many issues, including in committee on public safety. Once again, I am thankful for the opportunity to rise today to address the House on a subject that concerns all of us: the well-being of the members of our Canadian Armed Forces and those who support them.

Public Services and Procurement  Mr. Speaker, Brampton is one of the communities hit hardest by the pandemic. We have been a COVID hot spot, with the highest test positivity rate in Ontario, where one in five people is testing positive. I have heard many questions from my constituents about vaccine supply, how many doses have arrived in Canada and when they will get their vaccines.

The Budget  Mr. Speaker, as a proud member of Parliament for one of the youngest ridings in the country, I know how much investments in our children and youth matter. The Canada child benefit alone helped over 37,000 children in my riding of Brampton West. This week, Canada's first female Minister of Finance announced a historic budget that includes investments in early learning and child care programs that will provide more young Canadians with the education and care they need, while giving parents peace of mind.

Black History Month  Mr. Speaker, Black health care workers are both at the forefront and behind the scenes of this unprecedented battle against COVID-19. During a virtual Black History Month event in Brampton West, we celebrated Black front-line workers for their remarkable contributions during such a critical time in our country.

International Development  Madam Speaker, next week is International Development Week. Reducing extreme poverty, advancing gender equality, responding to humanitarian crises and increasing access to education and health care for the most vulnerable are some of the many global initiatives that Canada has moved forward.

Holiday Season  Mr. Speaker, I would like to take this opportunity to wish my constituents in Brampton West and all Canadians a very happy holiday season. This year presented unique challenges, perhaps the greatest challenge of our generation. In one way or another, we have all been impacted. We have all made sacrifices and some of us have lost a loved one this year, which is perhaps the greatest loss of all.

Main Estimates, 2020-21  Mr. Speaker, my hon. colleague is right. It was very unfortunate when we saw, in the last election, the Conservative Party of Canada pledge to cut the foreign aid budget by 25%. Here, we are fighting every single day to get more support for international development and international aid.

Main Estimates, 2020-21  Mr. Speaker, allow me to thank my friend for his kind comments. I was quite grateful and an honour for me to get back to the front lines when I volunteered at a long-term care facility in my community in Brampton, which was hard hit by the COVID crisis. It was an honour for me to work alongside our Canadian Armed Forces and be able to give back to my community in any way that I could.

Main Estimates, 2020-21  Mr. Speaker, my hon. colleague is right. As I mentioned earlier in my comments, COVID-19 is a threat that knows no borders and can only be overcome through a coordinated and collaborative response, which Canada has been taking a leadership role in on many fronts. Whether it is the Minister of International Development, the Minister of Foreign Affairs or the Minister of International Trade, we need to continue to work alongside our global partners to make future vaccine treatment options available, accessible and affordable for every single person.
