Industry committee  Khan, you said your project went from lab to proof of concept. Now, regarding the project you are implementing in the oil sands, has it reached the commercialization stage?

Industry committee  I don't recall a specific conversation, but I would say that it was not uncommon for me to reach out to CEOs to engage them in the board selection process.

Public Safety committee  For me, the primary purpose of the registry is to lower the evidentiary threshold for investigations, because, in many cases, it is very difficult for security and criminal intelligence to reach the current threshold as defined in law in Canada. With the registry, you are now giving the agencies a much lower threshold for the purpose of investigation. That, I think, is the primary purpose.

Industry committee  I had corresponded with the clerk repeatedly, and the clerk was aware that I was in Australia on business when I was initially invited to attend. Upon my return, I reached out again, specifically to confirm my attendance, which is when the clerk informed me that I had already been the subject of a summons. I am here voluntarily and co-operatively to help you complete your study.

Government Priorities  How can Canada continue to be a land of opportunity and freedom when so many Canadians are no longer able to feed and house themselves? According to the Parliamentary Budget Officer, chronic homelessness is up 38%. The number of individuals living in unsheltered locations has increased by 88%.

Government Operations committee  However, in doing that, I may also touch on what I like: finding strategies and solutions. Of course, getting higher up in the organization chart, I am no longer the one doing the coding or directly awarding contracts; that is handled by the employees who report to me. Nonetheless, I found a way to do those things. I like managing teams, I like talking to people about my own mistakes so they can learn from them, I like advancing their careers.

Government Operations committee  Yes, and even further than that, an ATIP into the agency would reveal...even if there were emails that were no longer available on my laptop, an ATIP would reveal all emails that I would have sent and received to anybody at the agency or any other department.

Citizenship and Immigration committee  Other examples are the May 27 amendments and new public policies that allow persons who have work permits to extend them, and that allow persons who are in the process of getting permanent residence access to a longer stay in Canada of up to three years. These were made in response to the realities of our day-to-day that we need to adapt our policies. We're very willing to do that, and we'll continue to do so if necessary in the context of Hong Kong.

Canada Labour Code  Symptoms generally appear within three months of the event, and although some people may recover within six months of the onset of symptoms, many will take a year or longer to recover. In addition, at the provincial level, we note from our experience that very few people [and this is interesting] who contact us find it difficult to initiate the complaint process within the two years set out in the Act respecting labour standards.

Public Safety committee  A little earlier, a witness suggested including a provision that says if there's no review after five years, the act is no longer valid. That would be akin to a nuclear bomb. Would you have a suggestion for us to ensure that the act is reviewed every five years?

First Nations Clean Water Act  It took a long time for that consultation process to happen. It took three years before those communities would no longer have any boil water advisories. That takes consultation, something that has been missing in this situation and something we need more of. The recent government's history is that, in 2001, the then Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development began surveying water and waste water systems in indigenous communities across Canada to establish a baseline of information on existing drinking water infrastructure.

Public Services and Procurement  Speaker, I thank my colleague for allowing me the opportunity to thank the Auditor General of Canada once again for her important work on this and many other files. Yesterday, we heard the Auditor General reach findings that are very similar, and at times identical, to the findings of reports that the government published about a year ago. Based on these previous shared findings, we have been taking action for over a year now to end the standing offers with McKinsey and all similar companies.

First Nations Clean Water Act  It is imperative, and I would recommend, that the federal government use its immense power under section 91(24) of our Constitution, which grants this place an immense amount of power to come into force on laws and agreements with first nations and that could see to it that provinces can no longer ignore their legitimate rights. I will add one more piece, because this question is so important. Section 35 of the Constitution Act, 1982, recognizes and affirms the inherent treaty rights of first nations people.

Public Safety committee  For example, if somebody advocating for pro-democracy movements in Hong Kong is intimidated to the point where they don't feel safe doing that anymore—they no longer write to their MP or go to meetings in Parliament—it stops that individual from participating in Canadian democracy with their charter-protected rights. This is something that has—

First Nations Clean Water Act  Madam Speaker, I was not a member at that time, so I cannot speak specifically to how that played out, but I can share the concern with the member that this was brought forward at the end of litigation. It even took the government a year longer than it was supposed to take to table this legislation to address that. The current government has been dragging its feet. I am sure that we can agree that it needs to do better.
