Keeping Canada's Economy and Jobs Growing Act  I fully support this budget for its measures to create jobs and economic growth to support hard-working Canadians while maintaining Canada's fiscal advantage. Throughout this period of economic instability, Canada has received many international accolades for its relatively sound fiscal position.

Keeping Canada's Economy and Jobs Growing Act  Our Conservative government believes in low taxes and in leaving more money where it belongs: in the pockets of hard-working Canadian families and job-creating businesses. The opposition's high-tax agenda would increase taxes on job-creating businesses to pay for billions of dollars in reckless spending and bloated government programs in Ottawa.

Keeping Canada's Economy and Jobs Growing Act  Our Conservative government believes that Canada's economic success depends on a competitive tax regime working to keep taxes low for hard-working Canadians and the businesses that employ them, like many businesses in Etobicoke Centre. The opposition's high tax agenda would increase taxes on job creating businesses to pay for billions and billions in reckless spending on bloated government programs in Ottawa.

Keeping Canada's Economy and Jobs Growing Act  The Conservatives simply shrug their shoulders and tell Canadians to take solace in the fact that we are better off than countries like Greece. That is an insult. It is an insult to the hard-working Canadians who lost their jobs in the last recession through no fault of their own. It is time to act decisively on job creation so that the middle-class citizens who built our country can finally get back on their feet.

Keeping Canada's Economy and Jobs Growing Act  We started debate on this bill only yesterday and today the government is bringing a motion to shut down the debate. People in Canada need to be heard on this issue. It affects hard-working Canadians and seniors whose retirement savings are once again going up in smoke. The Minister of Finance agrees that we should be flexible and pragmatic, so let us bring the debate to the floor of the chamber.

Senate Reform Act  In conclusion, our government is dedicated to reforming the Senate so that it better reflects the values of hard-working Canadians across the country. My constituents tell me that they want change. I believe that the time for change in the Senate has come. With the Senate reform act, our government is presenting modest but important and attainable changes that would improve the Senate by providing it with greater legitimacy in the eyes of Canadians.

Business of Supply  The government should be taking a more flexible approach than it has been. Myself and many hard-working Canadians believe that the government should, therefore, reconsider its planned spending cuts, in light of global economic instability. More and more often I am hearing from seniors who are unable to stretch their pension cheques to meet the inflationary increase in the cost of living.

Business of Supply  Speaker, I would like ask my hon. colleague opposite a question. She talked about hard-working Canadian families, yet the NDP wants taxes to go up. As I said to my other colleague, the NDP wants transaction fees to go up. Financial transaction fees are things that impact hard-working families that can ill afford to pay them.

Canada Labour Code  Speaker, as we all know, illness and injury can strike anyone at any time. This year alone, hundreds of thousands of hard-working Canadians will be struck with catastrophic illness or serious physical injuries that prevent them from making a contribution in the workplace and providing for themselves and their families.

Canada Labour Code  As we all know, illness or injury can strike anyone at any time. This year alone, hundreds of thousands of hard-working Canadians will be struck with catastrophic illness or serious physical injuries that prevent them from making a contribution in the workplace and providing for them and their family. They will need time off, in some cases a lot of time off, to recover, but today they have just 12 weeks to recover before they must be back on the clock or risk losing their jobs.

Canada-U.S. Relations  It takes away jobs and it takes away the robustness of global trade. We will continue to stand up for hard-working Canadians and businesses. Why will the Liberal Party not do so?

The Economy  Glibly suggesting that we are in a relatively stronger position than countries like Greece is an insult to the hard-working Canadians and seniors who are worried about making ends meet. The time is now for the government to finally acknowledge the legitimate concerns of Canadians, act on the evidence and present a credible plan to safeguard Canadian jobs and our economy.

The Economy  The reckless political opportunism will force an unnecessary election, Canada's fourth in just seven years. Our Conservative government's focus remains on hard-working Canadians and their families notwithstanding the political opportunism of the Liberal leader and his coalition partners.
