International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia  Mr. Speaker, today is the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. It is a day that recognizes the tremendous contributions of the 2SLGBTQII+ community to freedom, equality and justice. However, thousands of gender-diverse Canadians are still denied access to the gender-affirming health care they deserve.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  Mr. Speaker, Sudanese Canadians in my riding, Einam and Hani, have been pleading with the government for help. Their families are stuck in Sudan amidst violence, and the government is nowhere to be found. The government's disorganized evacuation program left people behind with its restrictive criteria.

Alberta Wildfires  Mr. Speaker, the out-of-control wildfires in western Canada have forced thousands of my fellow Albertans from their homes. Even worse, many have no homes left at all, like one of my elders, Harry Supernault. A retired community leader and constantly hard-working man, he carved his home out of the bush in the East Prairie Metis Settlement.

Disaster Assistance  Mr. Speaker, thousands of Albertans have been evacuated due to out-of-control wildfires. They do not know when they will go home or what they will go home to. Métis settlements and first nations communities are hit worst of all. The federal government has a responsibility to ensure the safety of indigenous evacuees and provide them with the basics, like water, food and shelter.

An Act Respecting Regulatory Modernization  Madam Speaker, as the world continues to change, and as Canada continues to define our greater role in the world, not only as an innovator of products with innovation across many industries, but also as a producer of good food and high-quality products, we need to ensure that we remain a country that has the best products, the best orchards, the best beef and the best producers in the world.

An Act Respecting Regulatory Modernization  Madam Speaker, I grew up not too far from Cypress Hills—Grasslands, and I know how strong the economy is for producers there. In fact, we have traded many bulls and different kinds of animals with many of the producers there. The member is right when he talks about the issue of the labour shortages we are seeing at border crossings when it comes to the enforcement of regulations.

An Act Respecting Regulatory Modernization  Madam Speaker, the member for Nunavut is one of the strongest advocates for indigenous rights in this place, and without her we would be absent a kind of justice and a kind of dignity for indigenous people. Now I will speak directly on the question. Yes, as a matter of fact, indigenous people need to be at the table, and although New Democrats are recommending a yes vote on this, we are sincere about our request to invite members of Parliament across party lines to the committee stage to invite groups that have not been better heard.

An Act Respecting Regulatory Modernization  Madam Speaker, I thank the member for her advocacy and her good work in relation to protecting our farmers. As a rancher myself, we have had to deal with these kinds of issues, particularly when mad cow disease was an outbreak in Canada. Cattle ranchers, like my family and I, had to deal with those regulations.

An Act Respecting Regulatory Modernization  Madam Speaker, I believe it the responsibility of all members in the House to ensure that the benefits for Canadians and Québécois are there. It is important that we work together on all aspects that advance the interests of Canadians. Partisanship is often one of those things we may have to make a sacrifice for.

An Act Respecting Regulatory Modernization  Madam Speaker, today I am honoured to rise to speak to Bill S-6. I want to thank the previous speaker for highlighting many of the areas that are contemplated in this bill. I would argue that it was one of the better speeches made today. I also want to speak to what the bill does.

An Act Respecting Regulatory Modernization  Madam Speaker, I, too, want to thank the member across the way for his speech on the importance of Bill S-6. Bill S-6 is a massive bill. It contemplates minor amendments to a great series of ministries, and it is important work. It is my understanding that consultations had taken place, vast consultations prior to COVID, beginning as early as 2017 and manifesting in 2019.

Red Dress Day  Madam Chair, tonight we have heard a great deal of conversation. We have heard, from the Liberals and the Conservatives, quite compassionate speeches about how many people have had to reflect and learn. I did not hear that in the member's speech, and I want to take this as an opportunity to ensure the member can learn from someone I have learned from in my own life who is a resident of Lakeland.

Red Dress Day  Madam Chair, tonight we heard testimony, stories and the voices of many of our colleagues. We heard their personal experiences and what they have faced in the light in their community and how they face that issue here today. We witnessed learning, and that is one of the most incredible pieces of today and something we can all be grateful for.

Red Dress Day  Mr. Chair, I want to thank the hon. member for Nanaimo—Ladysmith for her consistent advocacy. I had the opportunity to visit her community to speak directly with indigenous folks who are experiencing many of the difficult issues she has spoken about, particularly some of the issues related to murdered and missing women.

Red Dress Day  Mr. Chair, that is such a good question, and it hits on part of the solution. I am very grateful for the member's candidness in offering of this topic and giving me a chance to deliberate on and talk about the need to ensure this. Men, particularly indigenous men, have also suffered the kind of history that indigenous women had to, but they suffer through that in a different way.
