Allegations Against Government of India  Madam Chair, I will be sharing my time with the member for Port Moody—Coquitlam. When I first learned of these allegations, they shocked me, and when I thought about these allegations even further, I became very angry. A Canadian citizen was killed in Canada by a foreign government.

Foreign Affairs  Mr. Speaker, yesterday the shocking allegation that a Canadian citizen was killed on Canadian soil by a foreign government rocked our country. People fleeing violence and persecution have always thought of Canada as a safe place, but now that sense of safety and security has been rocked.

Grocery Industry  Mr. Speaker, Canadians have been struggling with food prices for almost two years now. Here is a classic Liberal response. They asked the CEOs of the big grocery stores to come to Ottawa, to nicely ask them to stabilize the prices, not to bring them down but to stabilize them. All the while, the Liberals do not want Canadians to know that they met with the grocery lobbyists over 57 times in the past two years.

Lowering Prices for Canadians Act  moved for leave to introduce Bill C-352, An Act to amend the Competition Act and the Competition Tribunal Act. Madam Speaker, Canadians are hurting with record-high grocery bills. For 20 months in a row, food prices rose faster than inflation and the Liberals did nothing about it.

Foreign Affairs  Mr. Speaker, what we have just learned today in the House is something that shocks the safety and security so many Canadians rely on. It is outrageous. It is shocking and it is going to have deep and devastating impacts for Canadians. I want to also begin by acknowledging the family of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a family that is now learning that the loss of its loved one was potentially directly related to Indian government involvement.

Grocery Industry  Mr. Speaker, for 20 months, Canadians have been dealing with high grocery bills, and neither the Leader of the Opposition nor the Prime Minister has the courage to mention the true culprit, corporate greed, which is driving up prices. In fact, when they had the chance to publicly show up and hold these CEOs to account, neither of them even bothered to show up.

Grocery Industry  Mr. Speaker, Canada has lost one million affordable housing units under the Liberals and Conservatives, and housing construction has been declining for the past five months. Removing the GST on affordable housing construction is important, but eight years too late. A lot more needs to be done.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, countless affordability societies warn of the repercussions when people have to spend more than 30% of their income on rent, but in Toronto, over 40% of people exceed that amount. Things are getting very, very difficult for Canadians. While corporate landlords are making massive profits, Canadians are struggling.

Housing  Mr. Speaker, the Prime Minister and the Liberal government are not responding with the urgency that Canadians need. July 1 is just around the corner. In Quebec, July 1 is not only Canada Day, it is also moving day. The Office municipal d'habitation de Montréal has been contacted by 314 families who are losing their housing.

Taxation  Mr. Speaker, under the current Liberal government, the ultra-rich are getting richer and hard-working Canadians are falling further and further behind. The top CEOs are now making 243 times more than the average Canadian worker at their company. Loblaw CEO Galen Weston is paid $11.79 million a year in salary, which is 431 times more than the average income of an employee at that company.

Canada Early Learning and Child Care Act  Madam Speaker, I think it is fair to point out that the program needs to ensure that we are responding to the needs of those who are most vulnerable, and that is something we need to work on. If there are problems with the implementation, those are things we can work on, but we made the commitment to ensuring that families have access to affordable child care.

Canada Early Learning and Child Care Act  Madam Speaker, this will allow the rest of Canada to enjoy what Quebec already has. It is wonderful, and something that we want to share. It is one of the areas where Quebec has been a trailblazer. Lessons can be learned from the way that Quebec implemented this program, which has had an enormous impact on peoples' lives.

Canada Early Learning and Child Care Act  Madam Speaker, the leader of the Conservative Party made it very clear that he would scrap this bill and that he is opposed to it. New Democrats are very clear on our position: We are here for people. We are not here to protect the profits of billionaires. We want to ensure that families are able to get access to affordable child care, and that is what we are delivering here.

Canada Early Learning and Child Care Act  Madam Speaker, we are already seeing some of the benefits. I have already spoken to families that are seeing that child care that was once $30-plus a day will be $12 a day come January. We are already seeing that families are looking forward to the benefit of this legislation. It is going to lower their costs.

It is something that New Democrats are proudly supportive of. It is a bill that establishes a national early learning and child care system. Why this bill is so important is because it is transformative.
