Information & Ethics committee  That's why, after so many years, it's no longer a surprise to us that the recent CSIS report has come out with this explosive intelligence, if you will.

Government Operations committee  In other words, we have no access to any information about the contracts awarded to McKinsey. From 2016 onwards, there was an explosion in the number of contracts awarded to McKinsey, which everyone found very strange. You said that the first contract, worth $1.9 million, was entered into between May and October, 2016, and was regarding the Canada Border Services Agency's Assessment and Revenue Management project.

Telecommunications Act  Madam Speaker, we have seen an explosion in the impact of the digital world around the globe. Here in Canada, our systems are very complex, and we have some that are absolutely critical, which need to have the proposed protection.

Orléans Gas Explosion  Mr. Speaker, on Monday a gas leak caused a major explosion in my community that destroyed four houses in construction and affected more than 45 families. Sadly, 12 people were injured. I visited the emergency command centre, where I touched base with our local city councillor, Catherine Kitts.

Arab Heritage Month Act  The Arabic community in London is also so giving, generous and compassionate. We have seen the many fundraisers they held when the tragic explosion happened in Lebanon. There was a fundraiser just last weekend at the London Muslim Mosque in support of the victims of the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. They give so generously internationally, but also do so much for our community at home.

Arab Heritage Month Act  I do recall the coming together of the Lebanese-Canadian community here in Ottawa just recently, after the terrible explosions in Beirut. I remember it coming together, with incredible generosity, to match federal government offerings in funding for support right across, not just the greater Ottawa area, but right across the country.

Arab Heritage Month Act  I know it will mean a lot for members in my community in London—Fanshawe. He spoke about that coming together after the explosion in Beirut, and I really appreciate that. That hit my community so incredibly hard. They have been asking what we can do now, what more we can do and how we can ensure that consistent building back for Lebanon, which is complicated but necessary, as the jewel of the Middle East, is brought forward.

Criminal Code  I think mental health and addictions, if we talk to different specialists, go hand in hand. I believe we are on a very dangerous course right now with the explosion of mental health issues and the acceptance of hard drugs in our country. We have an epidemic of overdoses happening right now. That is not medically assisted suicide. That is drugs-assisted suicide.

Criminal Code  There is no way this should proceed in Canada. Even my colleague from Saanich—Gulf Islands talked about the explosive use of MAID and the slippery slope that actually happened. It was not a logical fallacy in debate. We have evidence of it. There are no safeguards and there are no supports to help Canadians make the choice to live.

Government Operations committee  Minister, as I mentioned, in 2014 and 2015, no contracts were awarded to McKinsey & Company. Your government took office and all of a sudden there was an explosion of contracts beginning in 2016. In 2021, contracts worth a total of $32 million were awarded. Where did the directive to do business with McKinsey come from?

Government Operations committee  Because as you rely on these management consultants, you don't do the hard work of investigating why our public service is not capable of delivering this. On the point around risk aversion and explosions of accountability that actually undermine accountability, that's a key one to address. I think parliamentarians played a big role in that, because in many cases, public servants will say the reason they act this way and are so risk averse is that they don't have an enabling environment to try new things, make mistakes and learn along the way.

Petitions  Revoking charitable status would politicize charitable status and would be the first step to even more measures to eradicate the values and principles of Christian Canadians. Revoking the charitable status of pro-life organizations would result in an explosion in the number of folks who are unable to get help in a time of crisis. Therefore, the folks who have signed this petition are calling on members of Parliament to do everything they can to prevent the revocation of charitable status from pro-life organizations.

Canada Early Learning and Child Care Act  As a mom who is so grateful to the child care workers who made it possible for me to do my job while my son was little, the absolute illumination that he had when he went to day care and the explosion in learning that I saw from him is one of those things for which I will be eternally grateful. When we talk about child care, there are so many spinoffs that are important for our society and our economy.

Halifax Explosion  The collision between the French munitions ship, the Mont-Blanc, and the Norwegian ship, the Imo, resulted in the largest human-made explosion at that time. There were 1,782 people killed and an estimated 9,000 injured. Relief efforts came from across Canada and the northeastern United States. To make matters worse, these heroic rescue efforts were also hampered by a snowstorm.

Declaration of Emergency committee  I was concerned to an extent. I'm more concerned about the weapons and the explosives found at Coutts, but certainly that is part of intelligence looking at the group. I also worry a little bit, though, that we have the police, who seem to have more freedom to look at open-source material and social media material than CSIS does.
