Criminal Code  It often leads to violence, as those people do not have the ability to defend themselves because they have been picked at for so long that they no longer understand their own human rights. I am glad to have this bill put forward. We have to remember that this kind of behaviour is consistent with early warning signs of femicides, and we need to stop that.

Agriculture and Agri-Food  Speaker, farmers suffered disastrous harvests last year, due in part to natural disasters. Last week, they finally reached an agreement with the Quebec government on compensation and have said loud and clear that now it is Ottawa's turn. Representatives of produce growers are in Ottawa today. They met with the minister this morning to remind him that they exist and that they deserve support.

Public Accounts committee  Could you maybe provide some details to this committee on why this process has taken as long as it has, understanding that this may be longer than a lot of folks, including me, would have liked? I'd be curious to hear why the consultations and this process took this length of time.

Miscarriage of Justice Review Commission Act (David and Joyce Milgaard's Law)  The member for Fundy Royal did ask a question today, and the only thing he has done really well was to make sure that the House advanced the issue of ensuring that there was no longer conversion therapy in Canada. It is something the member does not speak to, but he was the member who moved the motion to have unanimous consent because the Conservatives did not want to debate it.

Miscarriage of Justice Review Commission Act (David and Joyce Milgaard's Law)  In a radical departure from what was originally proposed, at committee, the minister has had Liberal members appeal the bill so that there would no longer be a requirement to appeal a court decision before someone could avail themselves of the wrongful conviction path. The standard by which the new Liberal-appointed commission would look at a wrongful conviction is whether one may have occurred.

Transport committee  Would you be willing to reach out to his office with that invitation again, with the knowledge that, from our side of the table, we'd be willing to extend hours or meet on a day we don't normally meet, provided that there are resources available?

Human Resources committee  I'm thrilled to be back. Honestly, I think the Parliamentary Budget Officer's report was actually quite flawed. Reaching Home is a program and, by itself, won't solve homelessness. You could add lots of money to Reaching Home and you likely wouldn't solve homelessness unless you solved the housing crisis.

Finance committee  I know that the Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities, with whom I have spoken, has a target of about 8%. I don't know if he will reach that next year, but I don't think that is very ambitious. Do you think we could learn from those countries and work toward a larger share of off-market units in our rental market?

Finance committee  I arrived shortly after you began speaking, taking over from my colleague from the Bloc Québécois, but I heard something that intrigues me: You think we have reached our maximum construction capacity in Canada. That is a problem nonetheless. In 2023 in Quebec, only 39,000 housing units were built, compared to 67,000 in 2021. So that is a decrease from the record in 2021.

Budget Implementation Act, 2024, No. 1  Speaker, I have to give the Conservatives some credit finally. I know it is taken me a long time to reach this conclusion, but they are exceptional at stringing together misleading and false statements into speeches. The member opposite talked about quality of life. He used that phrase in his speech.

Status of Women committee  How can anyone talk about harm in screening? Explain that to me. I do not understand how anyone can reach that conclusion. Dr. Appavoo, what are the disadvantages or harms associated with early screening? I cannot believe that the disadvantages or harms come down to simply getting telephone calls to tell us to go and get tests done or redone.

Taxation  Can the Minister of Finance explain why the value of inheritances left by people who will soon no longer be with us are going to be drastically reduced by the federal government's tax?
