Copyright Modernization Act  They are going to lose an enormous amount. We should really be working together to protect our local culture. That is the real Canadian culture, a culture that exists in spite of all these economic and political forces. It is just about time for us to work together to restore balance here in Canada.

Canadian Heritage committee  William Peyton Hubbard's act of heroism resulted in an ongoing friendship that saw Hubbard become Toronto's first acting mayor, the first person of African descent to do so. It may serve to raise and answer the question of who and what a real Canadian is, along with their experiences and contributions to the building of this country. What is the national narrative that informs what stories are collected, preserved, and deemed necessary?

Marketing Freedom for Grain Farmers Act  I would like to add that, since I was in Washington, I have received numerous emails from Americans thanking us for bringing the Canadian voice, the real Canadian voice, to Washington. We see the Conservatives' arrogance and hypocrisy in defending provincial rights until provinces tell them that they are wrong about their law and order bills or wrong in destroying the data of the long gun registry.

The Economy  Mr. Speaker, when real Canadians face challenges, they roll up their sleeves and get to work. That is what our industries our doing, despite the NDP's extreme opposition. The NDP goes to the United States to oppose the creation of jobs in Canada.

Veterans Affairs committee  Dressed as a soldier or nurse, the guide tells a first-person story of a Canadian in Normandy in 1944. Based on the memoirs and testimonies of real Canadian soldiers and nurses, children relate to the realities of war in a much more personal way. This program is unique and now in its fifth year of operation. Complex notions—like that of the Allies crossing the Atlantic Ocean, being far away from home, experiencing fear and fatigue, and returning to Canada as a changed person—become easily understood by the young ones, thanks to this innovative program.

Canadian Heritage committee  It's not just because we want to be tough-minded about it, but because we want to connect with real Canadians in their everyday experience. We want to be able to make this an occasion or event that really corresponds to their lives. I think it's wholly appropriate that the investigation of this committee address many of the social phenomena, obstacles, or challenges that Canadians are facing, and thinks about how an occasion like the sesquicentennial isn't just a party but is an opportunity for public imagination and public investment.

International Trade committee  So yes, we have an analysis to back up those numbers, but I want to make the point that these are theoretical econometric studies. They are projections. What really happens depends on real Canadian companies taking advantage of the opportunities after it's over. I guess like Kirsten, I'd like to say that these are absolutely accurate assessments and predictions, but they can't be.

Restoring Mail Delivery for Canadians Act  It has allowed me to have a new faith in Canadian politics. I will do everything it takes to see this current government hears what real Canadians want. I am a father of two and am finding it very difficult to sleep at night this past week, not knowing what our future holds for me and my children”. We could read many more into the record.

Restoring Mail Delivery for Canadians Act  These are the kinds of people who make up the workforce at Canada Post: people who want fairness so they can support their families, pay their own bills, work in a safe environment and retire with dignity, which is a right that should exist for all Canadians, real Canadians doing a real job for all Canadians. One of my constituents who is a postal worker summed up the attitude of the workers being locked out by Canada Post and now being forced back to work with this legislation.

The Budget  That brings to mind that the Prime Minister never actually took any real questions from real Canadians during the election, that the entire scripted process led to some sort of preordained public event that was meant to look like a campaign but was in fact nothing more than a public relations exercise.

The Budget  And they will not be cutting the fat, but they could cut into bone and sinew and muscle with regard to a good government's capacity to help real Canadians. I have one last point. The government could be working with provincial governments on a shared service agenda to work together to cut the administrative costs of government. That would be part of a good, constructive federal-provincial discussion on how they could work together to cut the cost of government and to respect hard-earned tax dollars from Canadians.

Petitions  The petitioners ask the federal government to continue to work with stakeholders to put a stop to Vale's devastating announcement in our community. They ask the government to show real Canadian leadership and say no to foreign takeovers that are bad for our communities.

Citizenship and Immigration  Do the Conservatives think that some Canadians are more Canadian than others? Are they unable to understand that all Canadians are real Canadians?

Business of Supply  Is it any wonder that New Democrats stand here today urging parliamentarians to do what the Conservative government has lacked the courage and leadership to do? We know what real Canadian leadership looks like. We only have to witness the tireless dedication of our leader, the member of Parliament for Toronto—Danforth. His dedication to this chamber and our political process, his commitment to giving all Canadians a voice in Parliament, is a shining example for all of us.

Canada-Panama Free Trade Act  By the time a so-called exemption was worked out, which itself required significant concessions by Canadian provinces, the protectionism in the United States had already hurt Canadian businesses, costing real Canadian jobs. The exemption only covered 37 states, a great example of how it is not just Washington that must be engaged. Despite our vociferous efforts to get the Conservative government to engage much more forcefully at the state level, the government did not seem to understand either the whats of the negative effects on Canadian business or the hows of fixing the problem, and here we are again.
