Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2020  Madam Speaker, it is very important that we point out the failures of the Liberal government. If it had looked at things a little better or done things a little differently, we would not have had to spend huge amounts of money on these programs. The member is definitely right. If we do not have a plan moving forward, trying to get our economy back in place, we are going to be in this perpetual motion forever of continuing with these programs.

Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2020  Madam Speaker, I rise today to discuss the state of our economy and Bill C-14, an act to implement certain provisions of the economic statement tabled in Parliament back in November. Over the past year, many Canadians have faced a complete lack of certainty about their livelihoods as a result of COVID.

Petitions  Mr. Speaker, I would like to present two petitions today. The first is with regard to the fact that Canada is still many years away from eliminating the use of oil and gas. Oil and gas produced in western Canada is produced with the highest labour and environmental standards in the world.

Petitions  Mr. Speaker, my second petition is on thermal coal. The petitioners call on the government to keep mining thermal coal in Alberta because it is produced to the highest environmental and labour standards, with very low sulphur content, thus giving China access to better coal to lower its environmental footprint.

Committees of the House  Mr. Speaker, Jasper and Jasper National Park are probably the most famous or most known for tourism in my riding. I am happy the member said tourism is suffering, because a previous speaker mentioned how many great things the sector is doing and I was thinking we were not in the same world.

Public Safety  Mr. Speaker, the government's new gun confiscation bill is overreaching. Not only will the legislation confiscate real firearms from law-abiding citizens, but it will also prohibit the sale of airsoft guns. One of my constituents owns a small sport shooting store that sells airsoft rifles.

Telecommunications  Madam Speaker, when the minister announced the results of the 600 megahertz auction last year, she noted the government's set-aside policy had created more competition for Canadians. However, we now know that set-aside bidders have a poor track record of deploying spectrum in rural communities.

Broadcasting Act  Madam Speaker, that is one of the things we always want to talk about. We want to ensure no one is overtaxed, but we want to ensure Canadian content is treated the same as any of the big Internet providers. We do not want to be giving more benefits to Internet giants such as Netflix.

Broadcasting Act  Madam Speaker, I do not think we should necessarily be looking at following somebody else's examples. We need to ensure we have our own Canadian-made that fits Canada. A lot of options have to be available to us. When we are looking at whether service providers, such as Netflix in this case, are raising their fees, it could be for a multitude of reasons.

Broadcasting Act  Madam Speaker, one of my biggest concerns is how Bill C-10 treats local media. When we talk about the Francophone, we need to ensure we have culturally sensitive information. We are a bilingual country. We have to ensure it is entrenched in our communications that we have the proper amount of representation, in English and French, as they are both official languages.

Broadcasting Act  Madam Speaker, I rise today to address Bill C-10, an act to amend the Broadcasting Act and to make related and consequential amendments to other acts. In short, Bill C-10 would create a regulatory mess of our streaming and broadcasting industry in Canada. I understand that one of the main reasons the bill is being brought forward is because it has been so long since our broadcasting regulations have been updated and our current policies are extremely out of date.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I am not surprised that you are fighting for Line 5 and will definitely not shut it down, because the economy depends on it. I am just concerned about the fact that you were not fighting as hard for Keystone XL or any of the other pipelines My question to you is this: Why do we have to keep bringing up these committees to start dealing with international partners?

Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2020  Mr. Speaker, my colleague brought up some very good points. I know housing is a big issue, and it definitely needs to be dealt with, as well as the opioid crisis. However, my concern is more with the mental state. We definitely need to do more for the mental state of these people.

Telecommunications  Mr. Speaker, for many rural Canadians, including thousands in my riding, wireless high-speed Internet is the only broadband solution available. Internet in my riding is offered to constituents at speeds of zero megabytes and up. However, with access to more spectrum, they could receive 50 megabytes for downloads and 10 megabytes for uploads.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, first, I want to tell the member how sorry I am for her mother's passing this fall. One of the things you spoke about was how important palliative care is and that it was available to her. However, there are other places in the country where palliative care is not as available or the quality is not as good.
