Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls  Madam Chair, I thank my colleague for his speech. Any conversation about missing and murdered indigenous women and girls is always a conversation about money. The government has done nothing to bring about reconciliation or take action since the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls three years ago.

Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls  Mr. Chair, I thank my colleague for that impactful speech. I am aware of what is happening because indigenous women in my riding, Abitibi—Baie-James—Nunavik—Eeyou, are experiencing the same thing. Women are still disappearing in Val-d'Or. Sometimes they are found, sometimes not.

Economic and Fiscal Update Implementation Act, 2021  Madam Speaker, I want to thank the member for Kelowna—Lake Country for that great speech. We are painfully aware that Bill C‑8 falls short on many fronts, from labour, at a time when there is a severe labour shortage across Canada and Quebec, to fighting tax havens, an area where nothing has been done.

Conservation of Fish Stocks and Management of Pinnipeds Act  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague from Coast of Bays—Central—Notre Dame for his great speech and his bill. You spoke about ecological imbalance and the repercussions for indigenous communities. There is still much to do with respect to acceptable population levels by species.

An Act for the Substantive Equality of Canada’s Official Languages  Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague for his nice speech. We also recognize the progress made with respect to the promotion and protection of the French language in francophone communities outside Quebec. However, we still believe that, even in these communities, we can do better.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, the member mentioned a reasonable spending plan. I think that it is reasonable to devote 2% of the GDP to the army so that it can fill in the gaps in the procurement system, which is slow, and with respect to recruitment, where it is not meeting any of its targets, and personnel retention, which is a major problem.

Official Languages Act  Madam Speaker, I thank my hon. colleague for her speech, but I do have a question for her. The bill states that the first portion of subsection 10(3) of the act, a provision on the language and translation of agreements, shall be replaced by the following: The Governor in Council may make regulations prescribing the circumstances in which any class, specified in the regulations, of agreements that are made between Canada and one or more other states or between Canada and one or more provinces or territories Can the minister explain whether it will be strictly unilingual or bilingual?

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague from Kingston and the Islands for his fine speech. However, we are discussing the budget. He spoke about several very important aspects. We cannot talk about the economy without talking about the workforce. There is a serious labour shortage in my riding and throughout the regions of Quebec.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for his fine speech. We know that measures for travellers will be relaxed on April 1. That is good news, but it is a little late. Once again, the government is slow to act. It is important that the government provide a timetable for lifting health measures in order to maintain social cohesion.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for her speech. You stated earlier today that this motion was one option, but it certainly is not because we cannot support it. Furthermore, the House cannot cut the GST or the HST in Canada. The House can adopt any motion it wants, but it is unable to take action in that regard.

Business of Supply  My colleague spoke about her riding. My riding of Abitibi—Baie-James—Nunavik—Eeyou is huge. There is a lot of ground to cover. I understand very well what she is saying; however I believe that instead we should be helping seniors or finding ways to help the disadvantaged.

Lev Chayka  Madam Speaker, I was deeply saddened to learn of the death of Lev Chayka, a Ukrainian priest who settled in Abitibi-Témiscamingue in 1952. He was 98 years old and the oldest priest in the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Toronto and Eastern Canada. He devoted almost 70 years of his life to communities in northern Ontario and Abitibi.

Economic and Fiscal Update Implementation Act, 2021  Mr. Speaker, I thank my hon. colleague for his fine speech. I have questions about social housing. As we know, the provinces are capable of managing their own budgets. When we talk about health care, we are talking about transfers. Why does the government not transfer these amounts to the provinces as well?

Emergencies Act  Madam Speaker, in his speech, my colleague talked about the protest and the trucker convoy. That deteriorated. It was not necessarily just a trucker convoy anymore, with all of the flags being displayed in Ottawa. We definitely do not want the Emergencies Act to be used. We are wondering how far this act can go if invoked.

Emergencies Act  Madam Speaker, I thank my colleague for his question. We know everything that happened should have happened during the early days of the protests in Ottawa. We feel the government did not take action and did not work with City of Ottawa police services. We do not think the Emergencies Act was necessary because existing municipal and provincial laws could have adequately addressed the situation.
