Canada Revenue Agency  Mr. Speaker, “We will allow charities to do their work on behalf of Canadians free from political harassment..”. Who said that? Liberals said that in their 2015 Liberal platform. They have done nothing. Anti-poverty charities have raised concerns about massive inequalities caused by Liberal policies.

Vaisakhi  [Member spoke in Punjabi] [English] Mr. Speaker, I wish everyone a very joyous Vaisakhi from the NDP and from our national leader, Mr. Jagmeet Singh. May the festival of Vaisakhi fill everyone with hope and happiness. This festival is a celebration of human rights and serves as a reminder that we are all connected, and that everyone must be free from prejudice, oppression, and discrimination, regardless of gender, ethnicity, sexuality, or identity.

Budget Implementation Act, 2018, No. 1  Mr. Speaker, the government has failed in the budget and the budget implementation act to take action against tax havens. We are talking about $10 billion to $30 billion a year that goes offshore and basically allows Canada's wealthiest citizens and biggest corporations to get off tax free, yet the government does not seem willing to take any action at all on that.

International Trade committee  For instance, we have presence in Europe, and we ask our people in Europe to make it part of their narrative to talk about free trade agreements and how they can increase the competitiveness of a Canadian company in that market.

Justice committee  Thank you very much to the members of the committee for inviting me. As has been said, I'm a Professor of Law at the University of British Columbia. For the past two decades, my scholarly research and a good deal of my pro bono legal work has focused on the issue of sexual violence against women, including the criminal laws surrounding sexual assault, prostitution, and pornography.

Business of Supply  moved: That the House recall its resolution adopted March 8, 2017, which asked the government to keep its promise to cap the stock option deduction loophole and to take aggressive action to combat tax havens, and that the House call on the government to respect that vote by ensuring that both measures are included in Budget 2018.

Finance committee  Thank you, Mr. Chair. We're getting into a lot of the nitty-gritty of really important policies. It's too bad we can't have six hours with you, but hopefully we'll be able to speak with you again. I want to come back to the SMEs and exports because I've been with the trade committee and have seen the problems that we're having in providing support around trade promotion.

Points of Order  Mr. Speaker, I am rising today concerning the practice that you will follow in the upcoming votes to determine the votability of Bill C-362, the important bill from the very dedicated and hard-working member of Parliament from Nanaimo—Ladysmith. This is a very important and historic point in time.

International Trade committee  Thank you. It is an exciting committee. I want to commend the committee for doing this study. When I was trade minister and we made the Canada-Europe free trade agreement the focus of our efforts, I came to the conclusion also that Canadian business had a serious problem, which was that we were opening lots of doors but not necessarily walking through them with all the trade agreements we were entering into.

International Trade committee  Thank you. Thank you to the committee for the opportunity today to express my ideas regarding this issue. As you mentioned, we're the oldest family private business operating in Canada. I think it gives us a unique view of the evolution of a variety of technologies that are starting to impact our economy, be they automation, AI, or the refinement of applied mathematics in managing our business.

Government Operations committee  Exactly. Well put. In addition, contracts of larger size can be set aside if the contract officer thinks there are at least two small businesses that can do the job, so the discussion is down at the contracting authority, and I don't know how that happens. Furthermore, larger contracts awarded to larger businesses must have small business subcontracting plans.

Government Operations committee  I'll try it first. This is going back to a previous life, not at the tribunal, but as a lawyer. I would certainly be looking to have a cap and trade system with a lot of allowances that basically free the cement—

I move: That pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Standing Committee on International Trade invite the Minister of Foreign Affairs and government officials to appear before committee on August 14th for one hour to provide the Committee with a summary of Canada's priorities in the upcoming North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) renegotiations with the United States and Mexico.

Foreign Affairs committee  In different ways both of you have mentioned checks and balances in our continental relationship. One issue you brought up was the original rejection by Canada of participation in the ballistic missile defence. More current today—and we may hear more about that tomorrow in the defence policy review and the decision one way or the other—would be to re-engage in our continental as well international defence treaties.
