Ottawa River Watershed  It is larger than Nova Scotia or New Brunswick, and larger than many countries, such as England or Greece. It is not only the Ottawa River that is contemplated in this motion. In Ontario, the Ottawa River watershed includes some important heritage and ecological sites, such as Algonquin Park, Bon Echo Provincial Park, and Murphy's Point, to name a few.

The Budget  We saw that their currency was failing, that their banks were failing, and that their whole plans were failing. We know about Greece and many of those countries, like Iceland and others. There were massive problems. However, Canadians knew they had people at the rudder who understood economies and knew what they had to do.

Preclearance Act, 2016  I will outline my most memorable experience with pre-clearance and it happened when I was on my honeymoon. It was not between our country and the United States but between Greece and Israel. I was on a Greek cruise ship which made port in Israel. Officials came by in the morning asking to see our passports. There was a pre-clearance place on the cruise ship so the border security guards went through our passports right on the ship, while we were cruising.

Ottawa River Watershed  On the contrary, the watershed movement, this whole question of evolving toward what is now being called integrated watershed management, is a national and international trend. It allows for a meeting place, an agora as they said in ancient Greece, a place where we can manage human activities and ecosystems at the watershed scale. It would integrate multiple concepts and methods, including water- and land-use planning and management.

Foreign Affairs committee  In fact, according to Transparency International, Bulgaria and Romania are not more corrupt than the old EU countries of Greece and Italy. So we should not really worry about Bulgaria. It's more about what is down in the Balkans, but we can leave that aside for now. In the former Soviet Union, I think that it's a clear division, but Armenia and Belarus are so far fully in the Russian sphere.

Citizenship and Immigration committee  Some of the testimony that took place over the summer was very contradictory. On some points, they seemed to be referring to UNHCR Muslim staff in Greece. The UNHCR doesn't run programs in Greece. I think there are some generalizations that may not have been accurate. Again, we need precise information that we can act upon.

Calgary Signal Hill  Hugh Fergusson was a businessman, a volunteer in the community of Bowness, and unfortunately died in his sleep while on a cycling vacation in Greece. Bev Reynolds was a public relations icon in the city of Calgary. She recently died peacefully, after a long struggle with cancer. While her PR career spanned more than 30 years, working with the homeless through the Knox United Church was probably one of her most satisfying accomplishments.

Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee  The second priority should be orphans of both or either parents; third, families whose family members were killed by ISIS; and fourth, displaced Yazidis who have relatives in Canada. Bring in 23,000 to 25,000 Yazidi refugees from Turkey, Syria, Greece, and Jordan as quickly as possible. Germany took in more than 1,000 escaped Yazidi girls, and this is greatly appreciated, but in some cases the KRG and some affiliated Yazidis were involved.

Business of Supply  I implore members to support the motion. In the words of author Ken Harbaugh, who recently visited a Yazidi refugee camp in Greece: In every other camp I have visited, refugees talk of one day going home. That can never happen for the Yazidis. The brutality that drove them here was utterly complete. Their homes were burned, their worship houses were defiled, their faith vilified.

Controlled Drugs and Substances Act  In 2011, the Global Commission on Drug Policy called for an end to drug prohibition stating that government expenditures on futile supply reduction strategies and incarceration displace cost-effective and evidence-based instrument investments in demand and harm reduction. That commission included former presidents and prime ministers of Brazil, Colombia, Greece, Mexico, and Switzerland, former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, and former Supreme Court of Canada judge and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Louise Arbour. Prohibition has failed to effectively curtail the supply or consumption of illicit drugs, and its unintended consequences can be devastating, creating a lucrative and violent black market and shifting resources from public health to law enforcement instead.

Foreign Affairs committee  One of the interesting points that we discovered is that some of the countries that are the most strongly opposed to sanctions are the least affected in material terms. Greece, although it makes statements opposing the sanctions, has found its trade with Russia has increased in the past year and a half. That has something to do with the situation in Greece, as well, but it's an interesting dynamic.

Citizenship and Immigration committee  There are about 750 Yazidi refugees in Skaramagas camp. In total there are about 3,363 Yazidi refugees in Greece. This is happening in Greece despite the fact that Greece is not a Muslim country. What about countries like Turkey or Syria? If that could happen in Greece, you can imagine what is happening.
