Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I always enjoy listening to my colleague from Rimouski-Neigette—Témiscouata—Les Basques. He puts his economics background to good use and it serves us well. It is quite interesting that the NDP supports our motion. We are very pleased about that. That is proof that the right and the left can agree when they are guided by common sense.

Pensions  Mr. Speaker, that is precisely our concern. We know that the government plans to work on the pension plan, but the problem is that every time this government touches something, it ends up increasing taxes, creating new taxes, or, even worse, sending the bill to future generations in the form of a deficit.

National Defence  Mr. Speaker, another broken Liberal Party promise has to do with fighter jets. The government promised an open bidding process, but now we know that the dice are loaded and the decision is made. The impact on Canada's economy is huge. It is a loss of $800 million, and 110 Canadian companies could be negatively affected by this decision.

Foreign Affairs  Mr. Speaker, yesterday, in the House, we had a very important debate about the genocide that ISIS is committing against the people of the world. During that debate, the Liberal member for Pierrefonds—Dollard said, “we should not rush to judgment”. Nineteen young women were burned alive, journalists are being beheaded on YouTube, and the U.S.

National Defence  Mr. Speaker, the best way to get that support is through a referendum. The Liberals know that, but they are just too embarrassed to say it. Another reality that we have come face to face with is the fact that this government has no plan to create jobs, but unfortunately, it has a plan to jeopardize jobs.

Electoral Reform  Mr. Speaker, before I begin, on behalf of my party, I want to offer our most sincere condolences to the family of the great Canadian Gordie Howe. We can never say it enough, but to sit here in the House of Commons is a great privilege for all 338 of us Canadians. We have this privilege because we received a mandate from the Canadian public.

Budget Implementation Act, 2016, No. 1  Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague for his speech, which was very interesting and instructive as usual. The Conservative Party and the NDP are worlds apart, but we must admit that sometimes we have the same vision and we think alike. For example, in the last election campaign, during the debate on refugees, the current ruling party said that Canada had to welcome 25,000 refugees by Christmas.

Budget Implementation Act, 2016, No. 1  Mr. Speaker, it is always nice to hear the hon. member, whom I always associate with Shawinigan, even though he is not from there. I am a good old-fashioned archaist, as everyone knows. He raised two points that I find intriguing. First, he reminded the House that in this budget, his government is bringing the retirement age back down to 65.

Finance  Mr. Speaker, the problem with this government is that every time it opens its mouth, there is a big disconnect. As members will recall, they said they would make revenue-neutral tax changes. Instead, they have dug a $1.7-billion hole. Now, they are turning their attention to pensions.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, my colleague's speech was very good, even though I did not agree with everything that he said. We have two things in common: we were both members of the Quebec National Assembly and we are both in favour of a referendum. However, that is where the similarities end.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I thank my hon. colleague from Trois-Rivières for his presentation. I have a fondness for archaisms. Of course, to the people of Quebec, Trois-Rivières is Maurice Duplessis country, and as we know, Maurice Duplessis had a very particular understanding of democracy.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I have a brief question and I expect a brief answer. Is the minister open to a referendum, yes or no?

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, because as the minister of health in Quebec said, it is unpractical. We cannot deal with that. I will say this in French because it is very difficult for me to say in English. It is raisonnablement prévisible. It is everything, but nothing. This is why we have to be clear.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, that is a very serious question. First, I want to repeat that I have great respect for nurses, and I pay them a great deal of respect. However, my argument was based on the Quebec experience. Quebec had exactly the same issue. It is not the Yukon, but le nouveau Québec, which is in the far north, was facing exactly the same issue and the same difficulties as Yukon.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I will share my time with my colleague the member for Carlton Trail—Eagle Creek. This is a very difficult time in my short political career, because it is a sensitive subject that should be free of partisanship. All opinions are right, and no one is wrong. We are all good Canadians of good conscience, and we are looking for the best solution on such a sensitive subject.
