Finance  Mr. Speaker, this morning La Presse is reporting that, once again, the Liberal government is hiding important information from Canadians, and once again, it has to do with the Department of Finance. The Department of Finance analyzed the cost of the Liberal promises. The document that was released to the public was heavily censored by the minister, obviously because he knows very well that his promises are going to cost Canadians a fortune.

Finance  Mr. Speaker, with all due respect to the Minister of Finance, and to put it mildly, we are becoming accustomed to his lack of transparency, which has been an issue from the beginning. The tax changes were supposed to be revenue neutral, and yet there is a deficit of $1.4 billion.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I will speak to what I know. I am very familiar with the issue of medial assistance in dying and end-of-life care, as I took part in drafting the two applicable statutes. I can say that in extremely sensitive and fragile cases, we have to respect the doctor. I personally received calls from Quebec doctors about this.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, based on the Quebec experience, we have to have conversations with each other. We need to have good conversations with the provinces. We had that in Quebec. The member talked about his personal experience, as did his colleague a few minutes ago. I want to say that everyone has the right to act on behalf of their own conscience.

Criminal Code  I will answer my distinguished colleague's question through you, Mr. Speaker. He is a lawyer so he knows what he is talking about when he says that this is a legal issue. This issue falls under provincial jurisdiction. However, it is such an important one that we need to ensure that we have a consistent approach across the provinces.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, unfortunately, no legislation could have prevented that type of situation. We have to realize that. There is not much we can do about people who are in utter despair. It would be nice to pass legislation asking them not to starve themselves in order to access this care.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, as I rise today, I feel a sense of gravity and strong emotion. This is not the first time. Two years ago, when I was a member of the National Assembly of Quebec, I rose to debate the extremely sensitive subject of medical assistance in dying. At the provincial level, the debate was about end-of-life care.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I have some serious questions, especially for this minister. Just now, the minister said that doctors' conscience was protected. I was very surprised to hear that. I did not read that clause. I would like the minister to tell me exactly which clause says that doctors' conscience will be protected.

Ministerial Expenses  Madam Speaker, one thing that is typical of this government is that it likes to go on and on about its lofty principles, but its actions say quite the opposite. Take transparency, for example. This government and its ministers must be accountable for all their expenses, yet a number of ministers have not yet reported their expenses.

Air Canada  Madam Speaker, it is always nice to hear someone on the government side talking about Paul Martin, who, unlike the current government, hated deficits. Moving on to another issue, the Minister of Transport has been doing a lot of improvising with regard to Bill C-10, and that is putting it mildly.

Air Canada  Mr. Speaker, yesterday, the Minister of Transport said that we must move quickly, and he moved a time allocation motion for Bill C-10. One of his arguments was that the Government of Quebec decided not to sue Air Canada. However, things are not going the minister's way because, this morning, Quebec's economy minister said that the federal government must not hinder her negotiations with Air Canada.

The Budget  Mr. Speaker, maybe they will understand the question better if I try again. One of this government's bad economic decisions was to reduce the age of retirement from 67 to 65. According to the parliamentary budget officer, this is going to cost an additional $11 billion. I am sorry, but we cannot afford that.

Yvan-Miville Des Chênes  Mr. Speaker, last Saturday evening, the Fondation aérovision inducted the late Yvan-Miville Des Chênes into the Quebec air and space hall of fame. Mr. Des Chênes is well known by Quebeckers for having been an on-air aviation expert for nearly 30 years. He was a great communicator who was gifted at sharing his love of aviation.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I, too, would rather have talked about this government's $30-billion deficit and its changes to the tax system, which will cost $1.7 billion. However, the reason we are talking about something else is that the Minister of Justice violated her own government's code of conduct.

Business of Supply  Mr. Speaker, I salute the member and congratulate him on his excellent speech. His references were on point, particularly those about Quebec's political history. His French is excellent. I would also like to remind everyone how well he performed in the election. I am ashamed to say that I won by just 19,000 votes.
