Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  As members know, we have quadrupled the number of spaces available in the private sponsorship of refugees program as compared to the Conservatives. This has allowed us to reduce processing times, to reduce backlogs and to work closely with community sponsors, like the Bhullar foundation, to resettle even more religious minorities.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  Mr. Speaker, the member opposite wants to convince Canadians that Conservatives are serious about the border, when they cut $400 million from CBSA. The party opposite wants to pretend that it cares about immigration processing. What was its record under its system?

Citizenship and Immigration committee  In the past we've seen, when Canadians have responded generously to provide protection to those who are seeking protection, that those folks have eventually integrated into Canadian society and become upstanding citizens. If you look at the track record that Canada has with respect to its welcome of Vietnamese boat people, those people came to our country seeking protection, and Canadians responded generously. No one can argue today that the Vietnamese Canadian community has not integrated.

Citizenship and Immigration committee  Canada is not immune to global migration patterns. We are seeing in the world now what is a record number of people on the move since the Second World War, and again, we're not immune to that. What our government is committed to doing is ensuring that we enforce Canadian law, but also meet our international obligations to continue to provide asylum to those who seek it, and doing so through an independent process that determines who requires asylum and who doesn't.

Citizenship and Immigration committee  In June 2018 there were 1,263 irregular border crossings by people claiming asylum. This is the lowest monthly total recorded since June 2017. It is less than half the number of people who were intercepted in April of this year. This signals a continued decrease and is a positive development. We recognize that movements of people are difficult to predict, but it is clear that as we implement our plan, it is having an impact.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  Speaker, international adoptions must always protect the safety and well-being of the children, as well as comply with the laws of both countries. Harmonizing these laws can be challenging, but the Harper Conservatives did not conduct enough consultations to make sure the provinces and territories, which are responsible for adoption, were on board with the moratorium. They went ahead and cancelled all adoptions from Pakistan, without taking into consideration the generosity of Canadians who wanted to sponsor.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  It is very rich for the member and that party to talk about border security and immigration processing when they left us with an abysmal record in both those categories.

Citizenship and Immigration committee  The rest of the immigration system, whether it is overseas refugees we are bringing to Canada, spouses, family reunification, parents and grandparents, economic immigrants, express entry, provincial nominee program, or the start-up visa, everything else is processed by IRCC. In those categories, we have an amazing track record. We have eliminated or dramatically reduced a lot of the backlogs that we inherited. We have dramatically decreased the processing time for a lot of those immigration streams, and we're proud of that record.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  We will continue to work with the provinces, including with the Province of Quebec, in the intergovernmental task force on irregular migration. Our outreach efforts are ongoing. We are proud of our record, and we will continue that collaboration.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  We have quadrupled the number of spaces available for Canadians to sponsor their parents and grandparents, we have cut the backlog that we inherited from the Harper Conservatives by 80% and we have introduced a more fair application process. The Liberal government continues to deliver an immigration system that works for all Canadians, including families and employers.

Citizenship and Immigration committee  Just to put it on the record, security screening is not conducted by IRCC. It's conducted by Public Safety. They would have the answer with respect to how many are beyond the normal processing time for security screening.

Business of Supply  We have had the ability to use information-sharing abilities with the United States and other partners to ensure that people who may pose a risk to Canadian society do not get on those planes. On the issue of moving forward with the eTA, we are proud of our record, and we will continue to make the necessary investments to make sure that it continues to operate smoothly.

Business of Supply  Madam Chair, we are in the month of May 2018, and so far, 8,600 complete applications have been received. That is a very good track record so far, and I am very confident that with the work that we are proceeding with in respect to parent and grandparent applications, we will receive 10,000 complete applications way before the end of 2018.
