Ramadan  Mr. Speaker, for the billions of Muslims across the world, the past month has been one of reflection, perseverance and gratitude. To mark the end of Ramadan, our Muslim brothers and sisters will celebrate Eid al-Fitr. After a month of fasting and spiritual reflection, it is a time for celebration and to honour the values of Islam.

International Trade  Mr. Speaker, we understand that strong collaboration and ongoing dialogue between industry and government is vitally important to resolve this issue. This is why we have set up a working group that includes key industry and government representatives. The group is meeting weekly and will ensure a coordinated and collaborative approach toward resolving this market access issue.

International Trade  Mr. Speaker, I want to thank my hon. colleague from Bow River for raising this important issue. Canada's agri-food industry contributes over $114 billion to our gross domestic product and over $64 billion to our balance of trade. That is why the issue of trade restrictions by China on Canadian agri-food products is a top priority for Canada.

Women Deliver  Mr. Speaker, Vancouver will soon host the Women Deliver 2019 Conference, the world's largest gathering on gender equality and the health, rights and well-being of women and girls. Women Deliver is more than just a conference; it is a movement to take action and make our voices heard.

National Nursing Week  Mr. Speaker, as a registered nurse, it is an honour to recognize the leadership role nurses play in our society during National Nursing Week. The theme for this year is, “Nurses: A Voice to Lead – Health for All.” According to the International Council of Nurses, this theme reflects that every nurse has a story and every story has the potential to improve the lives of individuals and communities.

Black History Month  Mr. Speaker, February is Black History Month, an important time to reflect on the contributions made by black Canadians to our nation. The theme for this year is “Black Canadian Youth: Boundless, Rooted, & Proud”. I am proud to recognize the black Canadian youth who are the leaders of today and tomorrow.

Brampton West  Mr. Speaker, my riding of Brampton West is home to many small businesses. These businesses provide jobs to help people from all walks of life and are the backbone of our economy. A few weeks ago, I was proud to welcome the Minister of Small Business and Export Promotion to my riding to meet with small business owners and talk about how our government is supporting them.

Public Safety  Mr. Speaker, for the residents in my riding of Brampton West, the recent increase in reported gun violence is a very concerning issue. Over the summer, I, alongside my colleagues from Brampton, appeared before the Peel Police Services Board to voice our concerns about what we are hearing from constituents to ensure that policy changes are made to reflect the community's feedback.

Mount Pleasant Village Market  Mr. Speaker, summer is just around the corner, and in Brampton West that means it is time for the Mount Pleasant Village Market. This farmers' market is now in its fourth year and is an opportunity for our community to come together to support local producers, vendors, and budding small businesses.

Canada Revenue Agency  Mr. Speaker, our government is committed to ensuring that the agency treats Canadians as valued clients and not simply as taxpayers. The confidence and trust that individuals have in the agency is the cornerstone of our tax system. The agency's employees involved in audits follow rigorous training.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank my friend for the incredible work she has done as a lawyer, and now as a member of Parliament. We know that this piece of legislation will have a real effect on court delays, as it intends to bring a culture shift within the criminal justice system, something that the Supreme Court stressed in the Jordan decision is required.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, as I said earlier, I am extremely proud of this piece of legislation as it moves forward with comprehensive justice reforms. One thing I am particularly proud of is how it would reduce the overrepresentation of indigenous people, people of colour, in particular black people, and other marginalized groups in our criminal justice system.

Criminal Code  Mr. Speaker, I am proud of Bill C-75. With this piece of legislation, our government is fulfilling its promise to move forward with comprehensive justice reforms. It would have real effect on court delays and reduce the overrepresentation of indigenous people, people of colour, in particular black people, and other marginalized groups in the criminal justice system, including those with mental health and addiction issues.

National Security Act, 2017  Mr. Speaker, as members know, Bill C-59 is an act to enhance Canada's national security while safeguarding the rights and freedoms of Canadians. It is a bill that is extremely important to constituents in my riding of Brampton West, who were really concerned about the problematic elements of the Harper Conservatives' Bill C-51.

International Trade  Mr. Speaker, we actually lowered taxes on the middle class by raising them for the top wealthiest 1%, which my hon. colleague and his party voted against. We introduced the Canada child benefit that is helping nine out of 10 Canadian families and putting more money in the pockets of families that need it.
