Electoral Reform  Madam Speaker, over 1,800 times, the Prime Minister promised in the 2015 election that it would be the last election under a winner-takes-all first-past-the-post system. I probably do not need to bore anyone with the details to know that this promise was not kept. It is obvious that politics got in the way.

Persons with Disabilities  Mr. Speaker, while the minister responsible for people with disabilities says it is going to be 18 more months until anyone receives the Canada disability benefit, Canadians with disabilities continue to disproportionately live in poverty across the country. Like me, the Prime Minister has never had the experience of living under the crushing weight of legislated poverty, but he can do something about it.

Petitions  Mr. Speaker, it is an honour to rise to present a petition on behalf of petitioners who, first of all, recognize that the overdose crisis is one that is a public health emergency. The petitioners note that more than 26,690 people have died of opioid-related causes since 2016. They also note that organizations including the Canadian Public Health Association, the Global Commission on Drug Policy, the World Health Organization and the United Nations have all recommended drug decriminalization.

Climate Change  Mr. Speaker, while climate change-fuelled wildfires burned over 175,000 square kilometres of area across the country this year, oil and gas companies are gouging Canadians at the pumps and raking in record-breaking profits. The Liberals have already imposed a windfall profit tax on banks and life insurance companies.

Petitions  Madam Speaker, it is an honour to rise this afternoon to present a petition on behalf of folks who have a set of items they are calling on the government to address for the housing crisis we are in. Among the eight items, they are calling for redefining “affordable housing” to ensure that it better reflects the economic reality being faced by millions of Canadians; better regulations to control excess profiteering by corporate investors and real estate investment trusts; closing tax evasion and money-laundering loopholes; increasing regulations on foreign investment in residential real estate; and prioritizing funding for non-profit and co-operative housing.

Climate Change  Madam Speaker, I congratulate the parliamentary secretary on his new role. I am looking forward to working with him. However, given his experience in Ontario, he should be just as angry as I am that we have a province that is looking to actually increase natural gas on the electricity grid.

This year, our country has been burning from unprecedented, climate-fuelled wildfires, with 131,000 square kilometres of land burned this summer alone, which is more than double the next-worst wildfire year on record.
