Official Languages  Mr. Speaker, I thank the member opposite. I can assure the member once again that francophone immigration is a very important issue within the department, as it is for the minister, myself, and all members of the House, I hope. As we know, Canada's francophonie is vibrant, which is why we need to ensure that the rights of francophones are respected.

Official Languages  Mr. Speaker, I thank the hon. member for Drummond for his very important question today. I also thank him for his work on committee. I can assure the hon. member that our government is firmly committed to meeting its obligations under the Official Languages Act. I am a francophone like he is.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  Madam Speaker, once again, as I said earlier, in line with the internationally agreed upon approach to resettlement, Canada’s resettlement program is designed to provide protection for refugees who are outside their country of origin. The Government of Canada relies on its partners, such as the United Nations Refugee Agency, to identify refugees in need of resettlement, who will then come to Canada as government-supported refugees.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  Madam Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague, the member for Sherwood Park—Fort Saskatchewan for his important question tonight, and I also thank you for the opportunity to respond today. As we know, there are over 60 million refugees and displaced people around the world.

Citizenship Act  Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for her speech and her great work in committee. I gather from what she said that the NDP will probably support our bill. I was just wondering if the member could elaborate a little on the benefit of the Senate amendments to the bill, and maybe also comment on the good work that the Senate is doing when it comes to bills like this coming back to the House of Commons.

Citizenship Act  Mr. Speaker, the member for Calgary Nose Hill touched on many subjects this evening, but I would like to get to the heart of the matter, which is Bill C-6. I am going to read the questions I have prepared because I would really like some good answers from her. Let us talk about fraud.

Citizenship Act  Madam Speaker, I would first like to congratulate the minister on his excellent speech and the wonderful job he has been doing since he was appointed Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship. Every day I am impressed by how hard he works and, as parliamentary secretary, I am learning a lot from him.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  Mr. Speaker, the member opposite knows very well how this agreement works, and the recent immigration policy changes in the United States have had no impact on that country's asylum system. I would like to quote the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Canada. I know the member does not like it when we quote such people, but I will do it anyway: I really think that the conditions which prevailed at the time of the drafting and adoption of the safe third country agreement in 2004 are the same as [they are today], and...it will be difficult to change the policy...

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  Mr. Speaker, I want to assure the House that the Government of Canada will continue to offer its protection to people in need. Canada will continue to have an asylum granting system with safeguards in place to ensure that those who would face harm are not sent back to persecution.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  Mr. Speaker, as I said at the beginning the question from the member opposite for the adjournment debate concerned the U.S. executive order on immigration and that is the question I answered. We will continue our efforts and we will work with our American counterparts to ensure that resident Canadians and permanent residents of Canada can continue to travel to the United States as they did before and under the same conditions, which continue to apply today.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  Mr. Speaker, the member opposite is very familiar with the rules of the House. The question she had submitted for this evening's adjournment proceedings had to do with the executive order put in place to prohibit people of certain nationalities from travelling to the United States.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  Madam Speaker, our government committed to making responsible choices that improve services for Canadians and create jobs. We have always been upfront and transparent about the costs of the relocation. In fact, a letter was sent from our department to the union, dated March 1, 2017, containing the very numbers quoted by the member opposite.

Roberta Dugas  Madam Speaker, I want to congratulate Roberta Dugas, who is a remarkable person. She was named citizen of the year by Club Richelieu de Caraquet. Ms. Dugas, who was born in Sainte-Anne-du-Bocage in Caraquet, is still very active in her community. She never misses an opportunity to promote her town of Caraquet or her region, the Acadian Peninsula.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship  Mr. Speaker, as everyone knows, our government warmly welcomes newcomers to Canada and appreciates the significant contributions they make. We also know the value of Canadian citizenship, and we will not allow anyone to cheat the system or undermine its integrity. We also believe that procedural fairness is very important, and we do not take the revocation process lightly.
