Subcommittee on International Human Rights committee  There are almost no neighbourhoods or regions of the capital and the area around it that are not directly or indirectly affected by the actions of the armed groups. Bill C-33 Strengthening the Port System and Railway Safety in Canada Act

Short Title Short title 1 This Act may be cited as the Strengthening the Port System and Railway Safety in Canada Act . R.S., c. 1 (2nd Supp.) Customs Act 2 The Customs Act is amended by adding the following after section 19: Making goods available for examination 19.01 (1) Any person who has goods in their possession or control that have been imported must, at the request of an officer and in accordance with the regulations, make those goods available for examination, including by delivering the goods, or causing them to be delivered, to a place specified by the officer.

Questions Passed as Orders for Returns  With regard to government measures related to the removal of unexploded explosive ordnance (UXO) in the Lac Saint-Pierre region: (a) which vendors have been awarded contracts related to the removal of UXO in the region since 2019; (b) what are the details of each contract in (a), including, for each, (i) the vendor, (ii) the value, (iii) the start and end dates, (iv) whether the contract was sole-sourced or awarded through a competitive bidding process, (v) the description of goods or services provided through contract; (c) for each contract in (b), how many UXOs in the region have actually been removed, broken down by year; (d) what are the projections related to the number of UXOs which will be removed by each vendor in (b), broken down by year between now and the end of the contract; (e) for each contract in (b), which was awarded through a competitive bidding process, how many vendors submitted bids; (f) does the government plan to award further contracts related to the UXO removal in the region, and, if so, what are the details of the plan; and (g) for each contract, what is the work schedule, broken down by month, including both work that has been completed to date and work that will be completed in the future?

Public Safety committee  In terms of definitions, there are different ways to go at it. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in the United States has a list of criteria that can be used to determine whether or not a weapon is military-style. I think California also has a definition, which includes all semi-automatics that can accommodate magazines and have at least one other military feature.

Public Safety  Speaker, text messages released to the Public Order Emergency Commission confirmed that RCMP Commissioner Lucki sought to use a messaging app that would prevent deleted messages from being retrieved by investigators. I guess she learned a lesson from former Liberal operative Dan Brien, who recorded explosive audio evidence that exposed the minister's attempt to interfere in a police investigation. The Liberals know they can hide their wrongdoing by using covert apps and deleting evidence, but Canadians are catching on to them.

Agriculture committee  A reliable food supply, resource availability, the location of arable land and solid research hubs represent the strengths of our agri-food sector. Not only that, but opportunities around the world are opening up because of the explosion in demand for emerging markets, and the growing number of constraints around the world in terms of land, water, energy and carbon emissions. Our agri-food exports have continued to grow in spite of challenges in the sector, and totalled $82 billion in 2021, exceeding the previous objective, which was to increase agri-food exports to at least $75 billion by the year 2025.

Justice committee  There was a great deal of misinformation on social media in particular—we all saw bits of it without seeing all of it—that all of a sudden, if you were intoxicated, this was a “get out of jail free” card. This was a pass. It was an explosion of misinformation. We needed to correct it quickly. Even though this was only a rare case and even though that wasn't true, it didn't matter; people felt it was. By closing this admittedly small gap, we could reinforce the larger message, which is that if you get drunk, you will be held responsible.

Foreign Affairs committee  I'd like to use the time with you here today to seek some more technical information. I understand that you're an engineer as well. On September 26, there were explosions in the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines. I understand that Nord Stream 1 was completely disabled by the explosion. Can you give us a sense of what the damage was to Nord Stream 1 versus Nord Stream 2?

Hurricane Fiona  Provinces like Nova Scotia are no stranger to this type of strengthened sense of community after experiencing a tragedy. In 1917, another historic event happened in the province when a cargo ship carrying explosives collided with a steamship in Halifax Harbour. At the time, the world had never known a man-made explosion of that magnitude, and the devastation was immense. However, it only took a couple of hours after the Halifax explosion before trains started making their way toward the city to deliver supplies and people willing to lend a hand at the city's darkest moment.
