Small Business Week  Mr. Speaker, this year, we are celebrating Small Business Week a little differently, by focusing on the tremendous strength and resilience that small business owners have shown throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. When the pandemic hit, our government needed to act like an entrepreneur, rolling out innovative new programs to save millions of jobs and protect household budgets across the country, and we had to do it in record time.

The Environment  Mr. Speaker, our government is committed to the protection of the marine environment and made significant investments over the past years to protect southern resident killer whales. Canada's navy has always been a strong steward of the environment. It has taken action to cease training operations in the area until we can assess the situation.

Fisheries and Oceans  Mr. Speaker, I want to thank the hon. member for the excellent work she does in this place on behalf of her constituents. Yesterday was indeed Treaty Day, and it reminds us of the important work that still needs to be done in honouring the Peace and Friendship Treaties signed so many years ago.

Pacific Salmon Fishery  Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague for his work on the fisheries committee and specifically for his recent work on wild Pacific salmon, a subject that we both share a passion for. I want to be very clear. Our government is committed to transitioning away from open net-pen finfish aquaculture in British Columbia in a responsible way.

Fisheries and Oceans  Mr. Speaker, wild Pacific salmon is a priority for our government, to British Columbians and to all Canadians, so I want to be very clear. Our government is committed to transitioning away from open net-pen finfish aquaculture in British Columbia in a responsible way. Part of that responsibility is to consult meaningfully with affected first nations, and that is exactly what our government is doing.

Airline Industry  Mr. Speaker, we have heard from all of our constituents across the country about the concerns that they face. No Canadian should have to choose between paying for rent and having income insecurity as a result of being unable to receive refunds. The minister's office continues to work with airlines across the country to ensure a solution.

Livelihood Fishery  Mr. Speaker, we as a government are fully committed to working in collaboration with first nations to implement their treaty right to fish in pursuit of a moderate livelihood. The Marshall decision was the trigger for many departmental programs and initiatives that have been implemented over the years.

Livelihood Fishery  Mr. Speaker, thanks to my hon. colleague for the very thoughtful presentation she just gave. Let me be clear. No relationship is more important to Canada than our relationship with indigenous peoples. Our government is working to build a nation-to-nation, government-to-government relationship based on respect, partnership and recognition of rights.

Fisheries  Madam Chair, the protection and restoration of wild Pacific salmon is a top priority of our government. It is why we have taken such strong and immediate action on passing environmental legislation, including the Fisheries Act, and why we have moved to protect 25% of our marine habitat by 2025.

Fisheries  Madam Speaker, when I was first appointed as the parliamentary secretary in 2017, I read the Cohen commission report from front to back. As a person who came to the House to improve the lives and opportunities of future generations, the issue of wild salmon immediately spoke to me as an opportunity to contribute to something that mattered to many British Columbians.

Fisheries and Oceans  Madam Speaker, on this issue I think it is important that we are incredibly clear. When it comes to finfish open-net pen aquaculture specific to the B.C. coast, we are moving forward on our commitment to transition away, completely independent, from anything happening on the east coast.

Fisheries and Oceans  Madam Speaker, indeed, our government agrees that wild salmon is a priority, specifically on the west coast. I think it is worth noting that the minister's first visit to British Columbia was with the Fraser management council, talking specifically about wild salmon and going up to Big Bar to look at the effects of the landslide.

Fisheries and Oceans  Madam Speaker, I would like the member to know that I share his concerns regarding the health of our Pacific salmon stocks. Protecting Pacific wild salmon is a priority for our government, and that is why we are taking urgent action to ensure that they are sustainable for generations to come and to support the communities that depend on them.

Fisheries and Oceans  Madam Speaker, as I stated in my previous speech, wild Pacific salmon are a priority for our government. That is why we have restored protections in the Fisheries Act, invested in coastal restoration through our $1.5-billion oceans protection plan and increased our level of ocean protection from less than 1% in 2015 to more than 13%.
