Agriculture committee The reason I'm asking is there are a lot of people concerned about the state of horses bound for slaughter and some of the conditions. It's good we're going to have the code. I have another question in regard to your organization, which I must say is pretty impressive with lots of members.

Agriculture committee I'm sorry, I'm going to be rude and stop you, but thank you. My next question is for Mr. Lambert and Mr. Horel. As you know, all of us here support the supply-managed sector; all political parties certainly do. You were talking about the structure in regard to animal welfare, and there seems to be a very strong infrastructure to ensure various policies take place.

Petitions Mr. Speaker, I have three petitions. The first one is also on a moratorium on GM alfalfa, from residents of Nelson, Slocan Valley, Kaslo, Castlegar, Rossland, Salmo, Ymir and Ainsworth, in my riding. They are saying that organic farming prohibits the use of genetic modification.

Petitions Mr. Speaker, the second petition, from the Chilliwack area, has about 200 names. The petitioners are calling upon the House of Commons to work with the provinces to ensure that federal and provincial laws are constructed and enforced that would ensure that those responsible for abusing, neglecting, torturing or otherwise harming animals are held accountable.

Petitions Mr. Speaker, my last petition is from the Toronto area. It calls on Parliament to enact Bill C-257 to require mandatory labelling of all food in which the presence of genetically modified ingredients can be detected.

Agriculture committee Thank you very much, Chair. There's just one question that I have for Ms. Zimmerman. We've had presentations by the wine industry that support tax relief for this 25% domestic content. It seemed logical that if we had tax relief for the Canadian content of blended wines, that would increase the amount of Canadian content, yet I'm hearing from you that this is not a good idea.

Natural Resources committee Thank you very much, Mr. Chair. Thanks to all of you for being here. I'm new to the committee, so I'm going to touch on a question that I've thought about a lot. I know in some of the questions we have here we ask to what extent can market diversification within Canada make up energy market diversification, because we always assume that diversification has to be with other countries.

Natural Resources committee Thank you, Mr. Garneau. We go now to Mr. Calkins, followed by Ms. Crockatt, and then Mr. Atamanenko.

Canada Post Mr. Speaker, Canada Post is planning to establish private outlets in close proximity to the main post office in rural B.C. This affects the communities of Nelson, Castlegar, Trail, Grand Forks and Oliver. This is a major step to justify reductions in service at the main office and the eventual privatization of postal services in our rural communities.
