Public Accounts committee  Thank you. We know that the work done by parliamentary committees is very important. It is a way that members are able to hold the government and its agencies accountable. We also know that it's equally important for law enforcement to maintain their operational independence, as we've discussed so far today, and to preserve the integrity of investigations.

Budget Implementation Act, 2024, No. 1  Madam Speaker, I appreciated a number of the comments the member made. I can understand why, through technological changes and advancements in web design, consumers rely more and more on Internet banking. The member gave the impression that the reason he is voting against the budget bill is that specific issue.

Public Accounts committee  It's amazing the extent the Liberal government will do to block our attempts to get some answers. Three hundred and forty million taxpayer dollars sent out.... If this were a publicly traded company, charges would have been laid and people would have been fired.

Canadian Heritage committee  I call the meeting back to order, please. We are meeting with our second round of witnesses on the bill. I'm sorry, everyone. I am just a little punchy. I came in on a red-eye, and I don't even know what I'm saying right now. We're hearing from witnesses on Bill C-354. I will introduce them.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, I suspect if you were to canvass the House, you would find unanimous consent to see the clock at 6:30 p.m. so we can get to Government Orders.

Public Accounts committee  Thank you for that. I'm thinking of the Auditor General, for example, who's governed by an act of Parliament. There are some very specific articles in that act regarding confidentiality of information received and so on. The Auditor General is very clear that she does co-operate with the RCMP.

Public Accounts committee  Thank you very much, Chair. I thank the witnesses for being here today. Indeed, I don't think there's a member of this committee who would seek to prevent or interfere or otherwise jeopardize the investigations you're doing. That's why I'm very surprised at the line of questioning my colleagues on the Conservative side are pursuing.

Budget Implementation Act, 2024, No. 1  This is an article written by Matthew Lau last week, which reads: In its latest announcement on the capital gains tax increase, the Liberal government presents as a “quick fact” that it’s “increasing capital gains taxes on 0.13 per cent of Canadians, in any given year.” There are three problems with the 0.13 per cent figure.

Canadian Heritage committee  Thank you so much. Thank you to the witnesses for being here. I read the bill, and I read some of the background documents, and it seems pretty simple. It says that we can go out there and consult the Quebec government and other provinces, but you're saying we do that already.

Public Accounts committee  Thank you very much, Mr. Chair. Thank you to our witnesses for being here today. I'll start by perhaps just saying what's on the mind of, I think, a lot of people. It's becoming increasingly disturbing to watch individuals question the operational independence of law enforcement in this country.

Budget Implementation Act, 2024, No. 1  It boils down to the fact that Canadians have lost hope and they feel like they are drowning, and there are a number of factors that contribute to that. One of the things I have noticed about the government over the last number of years since the Liberals have been in power is that it loves to talk a great game. It is amazing the number of promises the Liberals continue to promise to deliver on that they do not actually deliver on.

Electoral Participation Act  There will be a desire to get rid of a government that has a new scandal by the day and a phony NDP opposition party that sold its soul to keep the Liberals in power this long. I also think we need to focus on instilling the importance of voting as a civic duty.

Budget Implementation Act, 2024, No. 1  Madam Speaker, my colleague talked a lot about two issues that I am concerned about, which are affordability, of course, and housing. Our government has been focused, in the last number of years, on key issues for families and supporting Canadians. If the member is saying that we have an affordability problem, a housing crisis, et cetera, then why are the Conservatives voting against all the good programs that we are bringing forward?

Canadian Heritage committee  I just want to be very clear that in the context of this, which speaks to the Government of Quebec, the cultural distinctiveness of Quebec and the francophone market, you've said pretty clearly that extensive consultations already occur. There are no instances in which the Province of Quebec or any other province has not had the opportunity to be heard at whatever length they saw fit, and you go to great pains to make sure that those voices are heard and that their opinions are considered.
