Business of Supply  Madam Chair, when was the decision to eliminate the national round table taken, and with which groups did the government consult in making the decision to eliminate the round table?

Business of Supply  Madam Chair, I think it would be valuable if the minister actually responded to the questions that we are asking him. We have an issue. The national round table released a report on climate change adaptation and impacts on businesses, a 136-page advisory report, a 42-page guide for businesses, and 99 pages of case studies.

Conservative Party of Canada  Mr. Speaker, Tides Canada has been targeted and attacked by Conservative ministers, and that is wrong. It was recognized yesterday for showing leadership, transparency and accountability. It is one of the best run NGOs in all of the country. The Conservatives won the code of silence award from the Canadian Association of Journalists for being the worst government in Canada for secrecy.

Conservative Party of Canada  Mr. Speaker, the Conservatives are also trying to muzzle critics by attacking organizations such as Tides Canada, which just won a national award for its leadership, transparency and good governance. The Conservatives also received an award this week, the Code of Silence Award from the Canadian Association of Journalists for the least transparent government in all of Canada.

The Environment  Talking about getting the house in order, Mr. Speaker, the Conservatives should start with the environment. There are 22,000 contaminated sites in Canada posing risks to human health, from abandoned mines to leaky fuel tanks. Canadians expect the government to take action on these sites.

Peter JulianNDP

The Environment  Mr. Speaker, what a crock. According to the commissioner, those sites are the legacy of poor planning, inadequate environmental assessment and weak environmental regulations. The Conservatives are using their budget bill to force Canadians to accept changes that scuttle environmental protection for Canadian families.

Committees of the House  Mr. Speaker, we strongly criticized the report that comes from the majority of the Standing Committee on Natural Resources because we believe the report simply echoes the government's unbalanced oil extraction policy that does not take into consideration the damage to Canada's environment and to its economy.

Natural Resources  Mr. Speaker, today we learned that oil lobbyists changed this government's environmental policies. That explains the cuts. That explains why the government abandoned environmental protection. Future generations will pay for these bad decisions. They will pay for the fire sale of our natural resources and for the policies of a government that listens only to its lobbyist buddies.

Natural Resources  Mr. Speaker, if the government is acting on behalf of Canadians, it should know that Canadians want and deserve a government that conducts responsible environmental reviews. The government's approach is irresponsible natural resources policy, irresponsible environmental policy and bad energy economics.

41st General Election  Mr. Speaker, the facts are very clear. Only the Conservative Party is under investigation for electoral fraud. The Minister of Industry was found guilty of breaking the Conflict of Interest Act and is being investigated for two other violations. The Minister of National Defence provided misleading information on the F-35 and attacked the Parliamentary Budget Officer when he told the truth.

Citizen's Arrest and Self-defence Act  Mr. Speaker, we know how misdirected the government has been on criminal justice issues. It slashed crime prevention programs, which we know actually reduce the crime rate. It is willing to spend billions of dollars on prisons even though the crime rate is coming down. We have seen a variety of justice legislation that seems to be written on the back of a napkin and thrown into the House.

Petitions  Mr. Speaker, I am very pleased to table, along with so many of my colleagues, a petition from 57,000 British Columbians who have stood up to say that we have to protect the north coast and legislate a ban on oil tankers to protect our coast forever. These British Columbians who have wrote and have signed these petitions are from north Vancouver Island, Nanaimo—Alberni, Chilliwack, the North Shore of Vancouver, the Lower Mainland, Richmond and Surrey.

Ethics  Mr. Speaker, all the excuses in the world for their ethical failures will not hide the fact that Canadians expect and deserve better than what they are getting from the government. The Prime Minister does not seem to understand that these many ethical scandals popping up all over the place cast a shadow over the entire government.

Financial Statement of Minister of Finance  Madam Speaker, I certainly agree with the member. I would ask the member this simple question. The choice on Friday morning was to allow for the Conservatives to dominate debate, as they have in so many other cases, where they get most of the speaking spots and Conservative MP after Conservative MP stands in the House and regurgitates the same Prime Minister office talking points, every one of them, with the same message.

Financial Statement of Minister of Finance  Madam Speaker, first, I would like to pay tribute to the member for Dartmouth—Cole Harbour, who has been at my side handing me tweets and Facebook postings throughout this entire day. He has been tireless. I do not think he has even taken any breaks. Second, when my colleague talks about a structured, organized, energetic and strong opposition under the leadership of the member for Outremont, Canadians have not seen anything yet.
