Business of Supply  Since Quebec is not subject to the carbon tax, we do not have much information about it.

Carbon Tax  It would rather see millions of Canadians go hungry than provide farmers with carbon tax relief. Bill told me that he paid $14,000 in carbon taxes this fall, and that in this environment of rising costs and declining revenues, it is a huge hit to his farm. The Prime Minister is not worth the cost.

Indigenous and Northern Affairs committee  As happened on Friday, I'll just quickly read the motion: That the Standing Committee on Indigenous and Northern Affairs report to the House that it: (a) recognizes that the Chiefs of Ontario and the Attawapiskat First Nation are taking the federal government to court over the carbon tax; (b) recognizes the statement of the Chiefs of Ontario said the carbon tax is “discriminatory”, “anti-reconciliatory” and “has a disproportionate impact on First Nations”; (c) recognizes that the Liberal Government “refused to negotiate with First Nations in Ontario” and “refused to enter into good-faith conversations”, according to the Chiefs of Ontario; and (d) agrees with the Chiefs of Ontario, that First Nations should be exempt from the carbon tax.

Carbon Pricing  First nations communities are taking him to court because of the carbon tax. Conservatives have proposed a motion to axe the tax, and we will stay here as long as it takes. Will the Liberals finally listen to Canadians and vote with us to scrap the punishing carbon tax?

Business of Supply  They talked to me and what they want are massive investments to build social housing for families, for women who are victims of domestic abuse and for single mothers. Again, no one talked to me about the carbon tax and the related rising costs in Quebec. What they need is housing. No one talked to me about the carbon tax. The carbon tax does not apply in Quebec. What is it going to take for Conservatives to understand that this does not apply in Quebec?

Business of Supply  He rose in the House to ask the government to expedite the legislative process in the Senate regarding Bill C-234, which is about reducing the tax on the fuels used for grain drying. It is linked to the carbon tax. Once again, as all members from my party keep saying, the carbon tax does not apply in Quebec. Yet, the president of the federation Les Producteurs de lait du Québec is in the riding of the member for Chicoutimi—Le Fjord.

Business of Supply  That is what people want. No one ever brought up the carbon tax to me. What universe are the Conservatives living in?

Carbon Tax  Speaker, last night, the Liberal-appointed senators gutted Bill C-234, which will cost our farmers nearly $1 billion in carbon tax by 2030. Farmer Gord in Oxford paid $50,000 for the carbon tax just to run his farm. Thanks to the Liberals, it is now cheaper to buy Mexican asparagus shipped from 3,800 kilometres away than it is to buy asparagus grown in Oxford.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I understand that the member for Miramichi—Grand Lake is concerned about the carbon tax going up in his community. It is true the carbon tax went up two cents a litre last year and the rebates went up more for most folks, but what is also true is that the profits of the oil and gas industry went up 18¢ a litre for every single constituent of his as well.

Business of Supply  Madam Speaker, I find it quite interesting that the member takes this avenue when he truly understands that everybody, every Canadian who buys any food, pays the carbon tax. On top of that, every Canadian pays GST on that carbon tax, which amounts to millions and millions of dollars that the federal government collects; it says it is giving it back to everybody, but it does not.

Business of Supply  He is also provided a government-expensed vehicle. I believe that the leader does not actually pay the “carbon tax”, as the Conservatives like to refer to it; yet, from what I understand, he does get a rebate. I am wondering if the member sees some irony there. Does he believe that his designate should be cashing in on the rebate, while at the same time not having to pay a carbon tax because both his home and his vehicle are provided through the government?

Carbon Pricing  Pierre Dalphond, who was the mover of the amendment that has stripped that part of the bill to exempt buildings and barns from the carbon tax. This is absolutely ridiculous. Let us go back to when the carbon tax was first put in place and do the calculations on it. There are many farmers, ranchers and cattle feeders who use over 100,000 litres of on-farm fuels in a given year.

Carbon Pricing  After eight years of the NDP-Liberal government, Canadians are being forced into the highest level of food bank use in history, proving the Prime Minister is not worth the cost, as he plans to quadruple his penalizing carbon tax. Will the Prime Minister listen to Canadians and finally take the carbon tax off farmers, first nations and families that are just trying to heat their homes?

Carbon Pricing  Since 2016, there has been an 82% increase in the number of workers in Ontario who are using food banks. Bill C-234 would have taken the carbon tax off farmers, but the desperate Prime Minister spent the weekend calling senators pleading them to kill the bill. He is just not worth the cost. Will the Prime Minister listen to Canadians and take carbon tax off farmers, first nations and families?
