Health committee  I am also an activist and a member of the Harm Reduction Nurses Association, and I am absolutely infuriated by the federal Ministry of Health's decision to support and enable B.C.'s political move to walk back decriminalization. Drawing strength from the brave university students using their voice to stand up for justice, including the powerful students at VIU, as well as those at my alma mater, the University of Ottawa, I'll be taking this opportunity today to say what needs to be said.

Public Safety committee  Other sentencing principles include increasing a sentence to account for any relevant aggravating circumstances related to the offence or the offender (see s. 718.2 of the Criminal Code of Canada). The aggravating circumstances for Mr. Bernardo are endlessly horrific. I wish to address the CSC news release where it is stated that “[p]rior to the transfer and immediately after, CSC provided information and updates to all registered victims about the offender.”

Public Safety committee  If deliberations are supposed to be in camera, then they're supposed to be in camera. If we're going to nitpick about who said what and the nature of the representations,s as implied by Ms. Michaud, then we are getting perilously close to discussing what was said in camera. I don't think it's appropriate for somebody to say, “Well, this is what happened in camera,” when people can't actually discuss that.

Public Safety committee  You'll notice, in reference to the proposed amendment to the agenda, that we have not proposed any changes to the first or second item as they relate to the study of Bill S-210. The amendments we're proposing to the agenda, in terms of programming the committee's agenda going forward, deal with other matters that are very important to us and on which we think it's important to take a stand at a certain point.

Public Safety committee  This won't be long. I'm just looking at our witnesses who are here for Bill S-210. I'm just wondering if Mr. Genuis can give us an indication of whether the witnesses should remain. Will we eventually get to them? I don't want to waste their time any further.

Public Safety committee  Pursuant to the order of reference of Wednesday, December 13, 2023, the committee is commencing its study of Bill S-210, an act to restrict young persons’ online access to sexually explicit material. Please note that an in camera portion of 30 minutes is planned at the end of the meeting for discussing committee business.

Stopping Internet Sexual Exploitation Act  This is why we need strong Criminal Code measures to protect children. The Conservative bills, Bill S-210 and Bill C-270, would provide the strong criminal tools to protect children without all the additional problems associated with Bill C-63. I encourage the House to pass these proposed strong child protection Criminal Code-amending bills, Bill S-210 and Bill C-270.

Privilege  I want to bring up another fact, which is that this actually happened in Belgium as well. This is not APT31's first attempt. APT31 is renowned. APT40 is another group that has also done it repeatedly against others. It is not just IPAC members. I am going to draw one's attention to one particular group that was targeted in Belgium.

Government Operations committee  It is worth noting that when British Columbia begged and pleaded with the Liberal federal government to reverse the legalization policy in B.C. that was contributing to tragic overdose deaths, it took this government 11 days of inaction before they finally responded to B.C.'s plea.

Industry committee  What we're seeing is that Canada's GDP per capita is going down, Mexico's is going up, and the U.S.A.'s is going way up. Neither of those nations has a price on carbon. It's so bad that Mexico just became the United States' largest trading partner—a title that we used to have. We actually dropped to number three for the U.S.A.

Foreign Affairs committee  I would say that, unfortunately, the act enacted by Bill S‑211 doesn't do what we would like a due diligence law to do, which is more than just a reporting exercise. We would like it to cover all human rights. Unfortunately, that's not what this act does.

Foreign Affairs committee  Côté, I would like to go back to the part of your presentation where you recommended quickly passing legislation on corporate due diligence for human rights and the environment to give the ombudsperson for responsible enterprise real investigative powers. Would you say that they adopted Bill S‑211 on forced and child labour, which only requires companies to make voluntary declarations, and created this ombud position just to ease their conscience?

Petitions  In this case, It is in support of a petition that implores the House, in brief, to pass Bill S-210 from the Senate, the protecting young persons from exposure to pornography act. Those who have studied and are aware of this bill know this is in regard to age verification to access pornography.
