Justice  Mr. Speaker, citizens across Canada, including constituents in my riding, have been writing me to express their horror at the Senate amendments to Bill C-7. Canadians affected with mental illness want hope, not death. Why is the government opening the door for their untimely death rather than providing legal protection and hope?

Petitions  Mr. Speaker, I am honoured to present a petition on behalf of Canadian citizens deeply concerned about the vicious and ongoing genocide of the Uighur peoples by the Communist Chinese government. They express their condemnation of the Communist government's use of forced abortions and sterilizations, forced labour, family separations and forced indoctrination and detention in what has been described as concentration camps.

COVID-19 Pandemic Response  Madam Speaker, I want to thank all those constituents who have reached out to me with their questions and concerns during this pandemic. Canadians have questions about the decisions being made by their governments and the plans to get their lives back. It is alarming to hear the push-back on citizens who are engaged and asking critical questions about the Prime Minister's comments during his speech to the United Nations about a reset.

Medical Assistance in Dying  Madam Speaker, our first duty is to our own conscience. Former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau recognized this by enshrining conscience rights as the very first delineated in the charter. Tens of thousands of doctors truly and wholeheartedly believe that taking part in a physician-assisted suicide breaches their calling to do no harm.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, I apologize for the difficulties we were having. I do not believe that I was speaking about the uncertainty of a physician's diagnosis. I have been speaking about the safeguards that are being removed from this piece of legislation that allow for an individual to take time to reflect on the diagnosis they have received and to have conversations, not only with their family and friends but to look for a second opinion should they wish to do so.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, as I said in my speech and in response to other questions, we are debating a bill that would, by removing the safeguards, dramatically expand the existing euthanasia regime in Canada. We need to protect vulnerable Canadians. We heard that over and over again from many stakeholders, as well as those representing disability groups.

Criminal Code  Madam Speaker, what we are debating today in Bill C-7 are the changes that would be made as a result of the Truchon decision in Quebec. Nobody is questioning that Canadians have the right to choose MAID. Nobody is questioning that they should have access to that. We are questioning why the minister and the government are bent on removing all the safeguards that were put in place back in 2015 to protect the vulnerable.
