With regards to the challenges the families are facing at Sears Canada, we understand how difficult this is for the workers, their families, and the many communities involved.

Ethics  Mr. Speaker, why do the opposition members continually undermine the aerospace sector? When our government stood up and said we would contribute $372.5 million for more research and development, they opposed that. When our aerospace sector was under attack by the U.S., and particularly by Boeing, they went missing.

Bankruptcy  Mr. Speaker, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the member for his advocacy and hard work. I understand the concerns he is raising with respect to pensions. We as a government have been very clear that we support secure pensions as well. That is why we introduced the Canada pension plan and enhancements to it.

That is what we have been doing, all of the above. We will continue to invest in the aerospace sector.

Ethics  Mr. Speaker, the member opposite is absolutely correct. Of course, we support the aerospace sector. These are 208,000 good-quality jobs that on average pay 60% more than other manufacturing jobs. This industry contributes $28 billion to our economy. This industry helps our small and medium-sized enterprises, 800 suppliers across the country.

That is why, as a government, we are working with Sears representatives to see them through this difficult time and provide assistance.

We want to make sure that we have a process in place that gets the best possible outcome. With respect to Sears, I understand that the current Sears Canada pension funds are held in trust and must be used solely for the benefit for pensioners.

Aerospace Industry  Mr. Speaker, with respect to the joint venture, the repayment terms have not changed. What I do not understand is what the member opposite and the official opposition have against the aerospace sector. When we invested in research and development, they opposed us. When duties were imposed on Canadian airplanes, they went missing.

Aerospace Industry  Mr. Speaker, our government supports the aerospace sector and we will continue to work hard for the aerospace sector. Let me be very clear. Under the Investment Canada Act, the process that I oversee, we will make sure we get maximum economic benefit. That means the head office will be here in Canada.
