After the Conservatives took office, immigration processing times out of Beijing went up by 48% the first year. That means, if it took one year to process a spousal application before 2006, it took a year and a half in 2006.

Citizenship and Immigration committee  I crunched some numbers a couple of months ago, and they certainly haven't been challenged by either the parliamentary secretary in the House or the minister herself. Those numbers showed that between 2005 and 2006 there was a 20.67% increase overall in the amount of time it took somebody to come to Canada throughout the system.

Citizenship and Immigration committee  Picking up on that, sir, would you say that if the minister under the proposed system were to fast-track skilled workers and pick and choose them by country or category, that wouldn't do anything to decrease the backlog? The backlog is going to stay there, and the backlog is 925,000 cases.
